    winch

I don't use my winches enough to have a dedicated battery for them. I fabricated a set of extra long jumper cables out of welding leads. When I use the winch I just unroll the jumper and connect to the batteries in my truck. OTJ

    Puma air compressor

I have a Puma very similar to that for my paint booth. It works great for that but is pretty noisy. In my main shop I have a Quincy with a true five horse motor. It handles sand blasting booth just fine and is pretty quiet. The down side is the cost difference. The Quincy as almost twice...

Case VAI Lift Cylinder Cup Seals and O-Rings

Last time I replaced a Case VA lift cup seal I had to get it from Case/IH. Go to the Case/IH parts site and look it up. OTJ

Pertronix ignition upgrade for IH 444 Gas

I have let the smoke out of two Petronix in the past. One was a shorted coil. The other was my fault. I learned that when running a tractor to empty the carb don't forget to shut off the ignition after it stops... Other than that I have four tractors that run with them and no problems. As a...

    a good tyre slide hammer

You might want to add a bead breaker to your tire repair tools. I use the bead breaker to start and then finish with the slid hammer. Ken Tool makes a good slide hammer. If you get a NON-impact rated beak breaker they aren't that expensive. Let Google be your friend. OTJ

Looking for a Low to Medium Speed Angle Grinder

Thanks everyone. I should have been more specific. I am looking for a 4.5 to 5" grinder. I have a couple of 7" grinders and they are beasts. I was hoping to find a single speed that was a little slower than the race grinders. Add to that, I'm cheap and don't really want to spend a ton of...

Looking for a Low to Medium Speed Angle Grinder

I had a Rigid/Home Depot angle grinder that I used for wire brushing. It was not as fast as my Metabo cut off grinder so it was perfect for wire wheeling. I have been looking around for a replacement and all I seem to see is high speed grinders. It seems there has been a "speed war" going on...

    Reshaping a hood

What I have done in the past is to get several poly feed bags double them up and partially fill with sand. Put the bag on a saw horse and then beat pm the hood with a mallet or a block of wood and a hammer using the sand to conform to the shape of the hood. I would make a wooden dolly out of...

    Color me impressed!

Ditto on the Dewalt. The in-laws have a Stihl gasser that I borrow for the really high branches, but Dewalt works for most. OTJ

    Farmall B head

It is always great fun to watch your progress on these hidden gems. You all do a great job. You have to wonder what was done to these old tractors in the past to keep them running. I have resurrected quite few my self. Some of the "farmer" repairs are interesting. What ever it took to get...

    Auction find

Used to know. I did use them in high school in the 60's. A slide rule hanging from your belt in its pouch and pocket protector full of pens was the ultimate Nerd equipment. OTJ

    Finding under-ground utilities

The logical engineering part of my brain says this should not work, but it does. I can take two thin welding rods bend them and walk across a field and they will move when I cross water lines. I haven't tried it on power lines yet. Color me convinced... OTJ

    Cub pistons choices

I had a Cub engine rebuilt last year and the engine kit came with Fire Crater type Al pistons. I was a little surprised at that. OTJ

About to use POR-15 Fuel Tank sealer in my 706

I use POR15 on every tractor I restore, like seven and counting. The only thing I have to do is when I am finished and the POR15 has cured. You will have to carefully clean out the threads on the bung for the sediment bowel. I use a 3/8" pipe tap. Oh, and don't get the POR15 on any thing you...

    Timing of Farmall M

As for your over heating problem, have you opened up the side plate and cleaned out the water jackets around the cylinders? This area gets plugged up and coolant will not circulate around the cylinders. There is also a sheet metal channel on the cover plate that helps distribute the coolant...
