    What is the best way

Same way you would have put the phosphoric acid on. Just keep it damp for a while so the crystals can form. Once painted will keep the rust away a lot longer than iron phosphate.

    What is the best way

Phosphoric acid alone gives a Iron phosphate coating which is not as remotely as good as Zinc phosphate.

    Painting exaust manifolds?

Most of the stuff you'll see in the hardware store is silicone polyester, good for around 500?. This is mainly for stove pipe, we produce a few million pounds of coil a month for this purpose. You need a silicone polymerized coating which like the previous poster suggested which is good for...

    Paint question

These bright colours don't have the greatest hiding, less white than normal, so they will darken up a bit if coated over itself. We would re-prime then repaint of get the re-coat re-tinted a little lighter to compensate. Keep in mind that these paints are classified as therm-o-set not...

    Rustoleum on top of Tisco?

When I first took coatings courses years ago the motto for the industry was ?To Decorate and protect?. Basically this means prevent corrosion, mitigate weathering and be aesthetically pleasing. Other courses in quality engineering I took for certificates had their own motto ?Do it right the...

    Rustoleum on top of Tisco?

Scuffing for adhesion, not essential, for reducing excess coating different story, paint remover would be a better choice. If you consider the amount of lead driers in the alkyds and leaded pigments in other older paint jobs I would avoid scuffing at all costs. The old International and Allis...

    Rustoleum on top of Tisco?

The chemistry of an acrylic, polyester, urethane etc. is the same whether its pre or post painted. The manufactures of the aftermarket know you cannot detect adhesion issues easily without destructive testing. Mechanical adhesion is better than no adhesion thereby no claim. In OEM post paint...

    Rustoleum on top of Tisco?

I ve noticed that there is a paradigm in the aftermarket painting industry that everything must be abraded before a coating can be applied. There is two types of adhesion mechanical and chemical. Mechanical is based on friction and is somewhat limited. Chemical can be immensely strong and is the...

    Alkyds

Alkyds: Al stands for alcohol and kyd for cid with in turn stands for organic acid. This style of coating was developed before plastics were invented. It s made from alcohols that have two more hydroxyl- OH groups. The familiar alcohols methanol and ethanol only have a single hydroxyl group. The...

    Rust Removal Methods

EDTA is what is called a chelating agent (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid). They will give you this if you have heavy metal poisoning. Last time I used it was in college for titrations. Interesting someone found a way to remove rust with it.

    Valspar

Coating has very poor hiding, possible hypothesis 1. Reputable company makes underperforming product compared to competitors. (Unlikely or they would have lost market share years ago). 2. End user did not agitate sufficiently. (Unlikely, user has significant experience with coatings). 3...

    Valspar

Hiding is dependent of the pigments they use, mainly black and white pigments give good hiding. If you want a bright colour, less hiding the more dependent on the primer. We do a lot colour control with films spec. at 0.65 mils. half of what a post paint facility would do. I'd be a little wary...

    epoxy primer?

The black coating is more likely zinc phosphate which is black if put on heavy, usually with oil which soaks into the crystal lattice.
