I’m new to all this “tractoting” business

I struggle with knowing how tight to make things with an impact gun, and equipment often doesn’t have room, but they are sure helpful along the way for sure for disassembly! I’ve come to like ratcheting wrenches along with the socket set, and yea 1/2 inch is the socket deal. But, I’m a poor...

What kind of tractor is this?

Well. Totally unrelated, but I did not realize Little Giant was a local company to me, that nameplate is just a half hour down the road. And is now based in North Branch not all that far away, owned by the same family that runs the local bank here in my home town. Small world. Paul

    Disc mower oil

Mine has little dip sticks, never even would have thought about it as everything flat, dip sticks pointing downwards of course. Interesting question for the many different models out there. Paul

    John Deere "plow"

As I mentioned, locally such an implement is rare to none at all. But where he is, they might be a more common, many sitting in the groves, type of thing. If he wants this as a project, figuring out the model and then looking for another worn out old lump of iron like it might be a good way to...

    Cornhead grease/oil

Agco also makes a similar version of the corn head grease. Oddly when I asked at Napa or Auto Value they looked at me cross eyed, and typically they are both good with us farmers. Paul

    John Deere "plow"

Hardly ever see any around here, but looks like a one way or disc plow as the previous poster says. The hitch is right there in front of us. Somewhat disassembled and piled up. Should be a castor wheel on the socket to the left in the picture, would be the right of the plow. And a castor...

What size plow for a JD 5210

As a farmer, a bigger bottom is less likely to plug up with trash than a small bottom, so I like 16 inch bottoms better than 14 inch. But as a hobby plow person, I’m sure it is much more manly to have a ‘bigger plow’ and pull more bottoms if it is 14 or 12 inch bottoms…. Anyhow I have very...

    Newholland 216 rake

Got a pic of what you are dealing with? The YouTube videos appear to have 2 cranks to adjust things on each basket, is yours modified or different options or what? Paul

County line overrun clutch - bush hog axle problems

If used I was wondering if the male stub got twisted, then things don’t fit easily. Since it’s new, I wonder if paint got on either surface, or just manufactured poorly with burrs or sloppy machining. Burrs will likely wear down during use and loosen up, but yea it’s not a great situation. Paul

    Ledger plate sharpening?

Seems like a lot of work, at that point I would put new plates on? We would do a quick dress up with an angle grinder on smooth guards where the sickle had the serrations. While everything was still assembled. In either case you are removing metal and changing how things cut with each other...

    Rain

Anyone else wishing they could use their tractors? Almost got done planting 2 weeks ago and should be moving on to spraying and hay, but…. It rained a bunch, and now we are getting a pop up shower or thunder storm every single day. Might be a tenth of an inch or a full inch, only seems to hit...

County line overrun clutch - bush hog axle problems

Is this new, assembled now, or is this a used item? Paul

    International 700 plow

720 has better clearance for corn stalks and such. Some 700/710 had longer shanks to allow more room for stalks to clear. I tried to stick with the 720 models so I’m not so good with the 700/710 series…. If you aren’t plowing trashy stuff under it probably isn’t a big difference.

    Ford 8700 dual hubs?

More modern implements have a longer tongue to work with duals. Older implements might, well do have more issues. And yes it does make a difference, at least a little on turning. Changing the air pressure on radials can make a difference for sure, but you get into cost of all that. If you can...

    baler twine

The prison in Minnesota made twine back in the day, along with their Minnesota line of machinery. It got a bad name when the twine stopped working, it would tangle and ball up. Folk figured out the prisoners either made a mistake or intentionally put the sleeve and identifying tags on upside...
