    Change back to the original float. Too many of these kits have a float with gobs of solder weighing them down.

    Turn the fan belt inside out and check it for cracks. Also look the fan itself over real good for cracks. If one of those blades breaks off you'll hear some very bad noise.

    Tire question?

    I run 13.2's on my 9N. The ground speed is a bit quick when mowing, but it is not excessive. Floatation is great. We cut marsh hay and it will pull the mower and baler thru the soft stuff. It will run through swampy areas or over snow with no problem. They are ag-bar tires but don't tear up...

    Getting Engine Valves Out of 8N

    Compress the spring and remove the valve keeper. Slide the valve out , then drive the guide down with a punch and hammer, remove the horseshoe clip, then drive it out the rest of the way. The guides come out hard on those old flatheads, you may have to torch the spring if you can't move it...

    1949 8n Electrical Issues Starting

    Have the battery load tested. Your local auto parts store or garage should be able to do this. Don't mess around trying to jump the starter switch. It can be dangerous and lead to being run over.

    8n new clutch- not enough pedal for release

    Check your linkage for cracks especially around the shafts and be sure it is hooked up correctly. Follow the FO-4 manual for correct adjustment. Let us know what you find.

    1949 8n Electrical Issues Starting

    Sounds like the battery is toast. A good 6v should read about 6.7 to 7 volts with no load, probably a minimum of around 6.25. Hook up your volt meter and hit the starter button. If it drops below 4 volts, head to TSC or NAPA.

    tractor starts--then don't start

    Check your ignition switch. Hook up a volt meter to the switch and cycle it several times. Chances are the switch is working part time.

    '39 9N runs at full throttle only

    Be sure your choke rod is connected to the choke butterfly in the air inlet of the carburetor and that the governor rod is attached to the throttle butterfly. It sounds like they got reversed.
