    1850 Oliver

My recollection is the 1850 used a Perkins 6-354 engine; pretty much the same as was in the MF-1100 and MF-1130. Maybe not the very best engine in the world, but I would say, at least, amongst the very best. HTH best, Yeoman

    Farmall 706 I. H. or German

To my knowledge all 706s were direct start. The earlier ones used a 282 diesel that first was used in the 560 and 660. the later 706s used the 310 German.

Round Baler that my Farmall M can handle

I used to run a JD 500 with our IH MD. The 500 made a 1500 lb bale. If you were going up a significant grade, with almost a full bale, it was a bit much for the MD. Flat running it was always a breeze. HTH. Best, Yeoman

    Yellow Sweet Clover

I don't know where "here" is. In central New York, where I live, you can "frost seed" clover of many varieties. Yes, it sounds nuts. I have watched my father do it with snow still on the ground and results could not have been better. All this being said, medium red clover is one of the very...

Did Ford tell some untruths early on about the joint venture

To be fair, one should remember that there were different "Fords" involved in this mess. Henry I and Ferguson had respect and veneration for each other. The grandson Henry II, obviously did not, and proceeded to use Ferguson"s patents without compensation or permission. We even had one...

    green acres

I think the tractor was a JD GP. I don't even remember with any certainty, but it seems to me that the tractor was a two cylinder flathead, which the GP was. Pray for warm pleasant weather!!! best Yeoman

    D21??

Ours was a series II with the turbo; gobs of power. The transmission never gave any trouble but the finals were about like the XT-190, and the 21 could tear them up without even taking a deep breath. The 220 was about 4 inches longer and 1500 pounds heavier; all in the finals. The 210 was just...

    MM G1000

Re: G - 1000 Torque amplifier. There is a sprague one way clutch which has to engage when shifting to low range. The transmission shaft against which the sprague clutch engages and the one way pawls on the sprague do wear; and slippage can result. The transmission shaft can be built up with...

    1953 modle A john deere

Hey!! Easy does it. If you are not careful someone will be wanting to fight you because they have a late 1963 or maybe even a 1973 two banger J D A. I am afraid there are some of "them" in most every state; especially the state of confusion. Merry christmas, have a great new year. best, Yeoman

    Rule Enforcement Revisited

Ethan: I have never been to one of your club"s pulls. That said, however, from the majority of comments that are made here it is very clear that a very good job is being done by your crew. In almost any competition of any sort there will be a few malcontent, thumb sucking, bed wetting...

    spark plug numbers for WD9

Champion D-89D, if I remember it correctly. It has been a while. Don't know if it is a good number today. It is a starting point. They had a rather long reach. HTH, best Yeoman

Repairing a Crack in Cast Iron

I agree, Lincoln 308-16. I welded a flywheel on a JD B once and it held. Phenominal rod in my opinion. Good luck. best, Yeoman

    Stuck - with no pistons?

On these motors AC used an offset rod setup. Two rods go in one way and two the other. My recollection is one and four go the same way and two and three the opposite way. If the rods are not in properly the engine will bind and not turn over as it should. If it is forced to turn over you can...

    Cast vs aluminum pistons

Bodies at rest tend to stay at rest. Bodies in motion tend to stay in motion; the law of inertia. The greater the mass (weight) of any body (pistons etc.) the more energy (BTUs) it will take to overcome motion to arrest that body and to accelerate that body into motion. accelerating into motion...
