656 (Gas) Starts then shuts down...

Back in business! A big thanks to everyone who offered help. (y) The parts came today. Main issue was a bad/stuck solenoid - now replaced with a simple needle valve. Also found that the rubber elbow feeding air was completely shot, so that was replaced also. Just amazing that all these...

656 (Gas) Starts then shuts down...

Oh, schnarkies! I was wanting to run the tractor while waiting for the valve that I've now ordered. Do you think I can just grind off the solenoid tip without causing any issues?

656 (Gas) Starts then shuts down...

Great, thanks for the replies. You guys are the best! Do you even bother to shut off the [manual] valve when you don't use the tractor, or just leave it 'open'?

656 (Gas) Starts then shuts down...

So, it appears to be the "electric fuel solenoid" that's bad. Anyone know what the function is exactly, and if it can be replaced with something else? (Can't buy another one anywhere it seems...) Answering my own question: it appears I can get one of these...

Oh, wow. Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely check that out tomorrow morning first thing. Many thanks! (y)

656 (Gas) Starts then shuts down...

Had this 656 for a few years, and haven't done much to it. It's been reliable. I've done oil changes etc. I replaced the glass sediment filter once a few years ago, and cleaned the tank out at that time. But now I have an issue with it starting, running for two minutes or so, then shutting off...

    Baling twine left on field

I've been doing plastic twine on my NH315 exclusively, but might change to Sisal next year. Isn't the Bill Hook supposed to be changed if I switch to Sisal?

    Baling twine left on field

THIS. I use an NH315 baler and bale baskets, and [almost 100% of] those little bits stay with the bale, even during stacking. I just pick them off and throw them away before I feed the bales. This post was edited by Pig on 11/28/2023 at 09:16 am.

    Round baler

So, how much are these decent-condition Vermeer Rebel 5400 and similar sized balers where you guys are located? Because around these parts (NE PA) we seem to have the highest prices in the country. Many of the balers I see around here are in poor condition (not taken care of) but are still...

    Round baler

    Ah, gotcha; makes sense.

    Round baler

I don't get it. 6000 to 8000 square bales doesn't equal 100 round bales And who are you selling the square bales to now? Horsey people? They likely won't take rounds, so you have to find a completely new set of customers. With square bales you need manpower (labor), with round bales you...

    Gehl disc mower conditioner

Sort of. Vicon was bought by Kverneland in 1998, Kverneland was bought by Kubota in 2011. But yeah, essentially a Kubota is a Vicon now.

Blew Up My Brush Hog Gear Box

Not the mower; the gearbox. I have the same rotary cutter as the OP and it came with a 75HP gearbox. I suspect the previous owner of this 'mower' with his nice lawns cheaped out and replaced the gearbox at one point with a cheaper, 40HP one.

Blew Up My Brush Hog Gear Box

There's two main 'sizes' of brush cutter gearboxes floating around out there that cover most applications; 40HP and 75HP. Looks like yours was the ~40HP kind? I have a HOWSE 6 foot rotary cutter, and it has a 75HP gearbox on it. (I just replaced the bottom seal as it was leaking)...
