    1974 John Deere 830

Yes I think the linkage may not be situated correctly in the housing. It was less then graceful when putting that housing back on. ( super heavy ) Anyways the shifting: The shifter would move into neutral I could see that. Then When I went to put it into park I could see that happening...

    1974 John Deere 830

Well I was able to take the rockshaft cover off. I didn't exactly know what I was looking for. I assumed I would see something broke or mangled but none of the above. I was able to watch the transmission switch in and out of gears as I was shifting them. I did notice however that the shifter...

    1974 John Deere 830

Quick update: I have not had the time to pull that rockshaft cover yet. I did however unscrew the knob where I assume fluid goes into. It appears as though there is a "shift fork" visual there........ Not sure..... regardless when shifting any of the gears that never moved. ( Maybe those...

    1974 John Deere 830

Well.... I took a peek to see what was inside. The area circled in blue ( which was very helpful ) did not appear to be damaged or broke. The rails themselves seemed to be aligned correctly indicating that both shift levers were in the neutral position. The shift fork #21 I don't believe I...

    1974 John Deere 830

I just bought a 1974 John Deere 830. The tractor only goes in reverse. If I shift it into other gears, the tractor continues to drive in reverse. I bought the tractor knowing the problem existed, but I am now seeking help on how to fix it. If anyone knows or has some ideas please advise...

Massey Ferguson 1104 Need Help Starting

In comparison I would have to say yes.... maybe a little faster. But it was defiantly binding. Not even close to starting...... I removed it before I chewed anything up... So I can try and return it. Honestly... what else could it be? I can't assume it's something internal because it...

Massey Ferguson 1104 Need Help Starting

Well I bought a new starter yesterday. "it was suppose to be an exact fit" Unfortunately, the starter is made a little bigger which makes it rub on my steering linkage. It does bolt up, but I think it's not shimmed correctly. When I hit it with power it made a whining noise that I had not...

Just did... It's the right one. I'm thinking about going out and buying a new one today. At least this would eliminate the bad starter idea.

Massey Ferguson 1104 Need Help Starting

The previous owner did install a new alternator, with a new belt. So it's possible that the alternator is hanging up the cranking? I might pop that off tonight and see what happens...

Massey Ferguson 1104 Need Help Starting

Good points...... I don't honestly know if this starter is correct or not. I just assume that it was. I don't know how to go about finding whether it is correct or not. My starter part number is S114-371 Can a starter be good bench tested..... but fail when under a load? I checked the...

Massey Ferguson 1104 Need Help Starting

Your suggesting the negative terminal that's coming off the battery should be ran straight to the starter with a cable? I did find a flat braided ground wire strap that went right to the frame but it was broke. I have been using a regular car battery negative cable. Is the flat braided one...
