    4020 pulling advice

We're talking way up front, forward of the front axle. Just my opinion but I'd move 400 lbs from the belly rack to out front and establish a baseline for what is needed to keep the front down at least most of the way down the track. It's safer for you and you can steer and have more control and...

    4020 pulling advice

In the top video it looks like you should've had some weight on front. The sled pulls down on the hitch more and more as you go down the track. When the front goes up you loose traction from the change in hitch height. Generally speaking you can let some air out of the tires on soft tracks and...

Right off the farm Oliver 77 RC

If you are burning some oil try changing to a straight 40 weight. It should help increase the compression. Try to run the hitch as far in and as high as rules allow. I cut my 77 hitch shorter and bolted a plate with a hole in it for the sled and I have a factory hitch I can swap in too. Adjust...

    48 John Deere A

I'd like to make my styled A lighter. Is it possible to take some of the styled parts off and put unstyled parts on? Seems like the unstyled A's are lighter, would an unstyled front end (rails and all) and rear end (diff.) fit. Is there much mixing and matching that can be done for weight...

    MF 1100 Shifting issue

I'm looking at a Massey Ferguson 1100. It has been sitting a while, I got it started today and I don't know much about these tractors. I was driving it around today in low range and can't get it into high range. It moves from the low notch to a center notch which might be a neutral. The gear...

    1936 case cc

Another you thing you could do Swarty, is look at the rules for the pulling classes in your area. They might have max tire sizes and hitch placement guidelines to keep in mind. Typical rules for hitches would be 18" back from the axle and 20" above the ground. Moving the hitch up and close like...

    310 in a 77 running bad

I tried a 2 1/8 Zenith and that worked better. But it isn't a good match to the manifold. Then I learned it had trouble with RPMs, like it had no governor. I think the trouble is me, LOL, because I didn't set up the carb to the throttle lever in wide open position. I have to admit its been...

    310 in a 77 running bad

Last fall I took out a good running 77 engine and got a 310 gas bolted in. The 310 is stock with a rebuilt head and came out of a 1850. It starts and idles good but seems to lean out when I crack the throttle. With about 1/2 choke I can crack the throttle and it will spin up like it should...

    Toro 325D won't start

Thanks for the tip. They are nice big mowers, I've been using it home for about 5 years. This one has 5 blades and a 85 or 88" cut.

    Toro 325D won't start

I have a 325D that acted like ran out of fuel. Last time it was mowing it started good then when I parked it in the shed for a idle cool down it just slowly died like it ran out of fuel. It was over the empty mark at that point, I put some more diesel in to see if it would help but it still...

just bought a 1850 gas engine

Thanks for the info. Its going into a 77 after the season winds down. Right now the 77 has the original block with a big bore kit and a 770 head. 250 cubic inches it pretty fun now but hoping for a little more at the brush pulls up to 5000 lbs or so. What is the path of least resistance for...

just bought a 1850 gas engine

Oops I was trying to show a picture of what I bought to help identify if it is a 283 or a 310. Maybe someone can helps anyways. The engine came out of a 1850 gas, not sure of the year. It has a canister oil filter ahead of the distributor and a 3 groove pulley on the crank shaft. Some said...

    Hauling suitcase wieghts

Has anyone ever had success using heavy wheel weights at tractor pulls. They would be nice for jumping a class but hauling them and using them in the pit seem like a challenge. I have 4 of those thick MM weights, about 4 x 23" and made pipe style wheel brackets but got stuck on the idea there.
