The 'easy' answer to the cracked block is 'pinning' or 'bolting'. Basically drilling holes in either side of the block and using threaded rod run between the cylinders in the water jacket to hold things steady. Asian pears are pretty straightforward, the biggest key is to get the crop load reduced to an appropriate level. They will happily set way too much fruit and produce huge numbers of tiny fruit.- pomester

Is your Ferguson set-up hydraulic like this one (which until now I didn't know existed)? I think Howard or one of the other aftermarket suppliers offered a system that would halt the forward motion of the tractor and leave the PTO spin, but it was like a secondary clutch behind the transmission... -

The Sherman shifter enters the bellhousing/clutch housing and does not allow water entry to the transmission.
