Update: New coil installed now have spark at the secondary wire of newest coil to clean head bolt. It wasn't the best in the world but could hear it and barely see it but it was a bright sunny day and the tractor is in the field plus I think the battery was a bit drained. I went to jump the...

"The only thing left to replace is the coil." I have came to the same conclusion. The trouble is this was a new coil when I began this last spring from just 8N's. I'm going to take the coil to NAPA and see if they can test it but will go ahead and order a new one and see what I get. If that...

Well replaced the condenser with a FA66 from NAPA but no change still no spark at the secondary wire. This just isn't making sense!

Bruce, I have done this I had 6.33v on the movable arm of the points and 0V on the fixed side. With secondary wire of grounded 1/4" from paint and rust free area of the block starter engaged no spark. All the tests I have done since I began working on this last year have involved a hot fully...

With everything buttoned back up and a test plug connected in my earlier posts back in March and April and this weekend there was no spark at the test plug. Connected the the top of coil directly the test plug had yellow spark that I could hear but hooked coil back to dist and nothing at test...

Hi again, Update on my 4/12/14 52 8N 6V side mount won't start finally a free day to look over the tractor. Although voltage on my meter went from 6.3v to 0v back and forth as I turned over the tractor at bat side of coil. It was requested to post what a test lamp did. Well I made up a 6V test...

Thanks Bruce but I had done all of that in my original posts Mach 20, 2014. Had voltage at the points and they shorted with a screwdriver etc. Battery today was good and hot after being charged most of the day. It's funny though with the test plug in March I did get a weak yellow spark but...

    52 8N 6V side mount won't start

This is a follow up to my posts in late March. Just been too busy to work on tractor. Anyways some of you suggested shorting out the secondary wire from the coil to rust and paint free area of the engine. When I did this today there was nothing, no spark of any kind no matter how close I got to...

Sorry for the confusion when I removed the screw driver that"s when the spark showed on the spark plug connected to the secondary coil lead. This is baffling as all get out. It should work when it"s all buttoned back up but it doesn"t.

They seem to open and close when the engine is cranked. There is short to ground when the close and voltage goes from 6.33 v open to 0 V when closed. Wouldn't that indicate they are working properly?

With the spark plug connected to secondary out of the coil (via alligator clip jumper between coil secondary wire and top of plug as coil wire clip was too large to stay on plug) I got a loud yellow spark each time I shorted the point with the screwdriver.
