Running lean after engine work/carb cleaning

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! I took the manifold I bought from YT off and put the old one back on, rust and all, and it runs fantastic. There must be an obstruction in the exhaust runner on #4. The intake tracts are shared between 1&2 and 3&4 and they look to be clear. I also looked as deep as I...

Running lean after engine work/carb cleaning

OK, to update everything. Had the carb apart and cleaned and set the float, did this a few times fearing I'd missed something. Took the carb yesterday to an old Allis, International, Dresser, Hough mechanic (he worked for the dealer and started in 1955) He set the float and inspected...

Running lean after engine work/carb cleaning

I did clean all the jets with guitar strings and do have the venturi in the correct way. I did replace the fuel petcock and fuel line so I will check for good and proper fuel flow at the carb. Yesterday I did some more trouble shooting and found that if I choke the tractor it runs perfectly...

Running lean after engine work/carb cleaning

This winter I took the head off my '54 Allis B and had the valves done, new valve seals installed and had the head milled back to flat. (there was a 0.004" warp between cylinders 2 and 3. Up to this point the tractor ran flawlessly other than smoking at low rpm. While waiting for the machine...

    Leaking transmission seal

Thanks Wayne. It seems to be leaking right at the front of the transmission. Come to think of it, I believe it is behind the power steering pump. Having had the power steering pump out before I seem to remember seeing a hydraulic line in the "tunnel". I hadn't thought of it, so I'm a little...

Mystery linkage on rear of B

Thank you for clarifying that for me Steve. I understand why they put the aux pump on it now. Everything works well just trying to learn all i can about my little B.

    Leaking transmission seal

Thanks Dieseltech. I was certain I would but wanted a second opinion before I did. Once in a while a fellow gets lucky, but not this time. Oh well such is the life of an old tractor owner. :-)

Mystery linkage on rear of B

Thanks Bob. I see a small pivot shaft just above this linkage, probably where the lever mounted. I'm guessing the pump wouldn't be sufficient for raising the Woods mower as efficiently as the engine mounted, belt driven pump would? I don't remember seeing anything about the hydraulic system...

    Leaking transmission seal

Oops. I guess I should have mentioned that in the OP Wayne. No, my tractor does not have multi power. Standard clutch with independent PTO.

    Leaking transmission seal

I have a diesel Super 90 and it looks like the front transmission seal is leaking (pretty bad now). Is it at all possible to replace this seal without splitting the tractor, or am I in for the thrill of my life?

Mystery linkage on rear of B

Thanks Gatz. Is this tractor supposed to have an internal hydraulic pump? It has a belt driven pump on the right side of the engine that is used to raise the mower deck. The only hydraulic line or equipment on this tractor is for the Woods mower. There is no connection from the engine driven...

Mystery linkage on rear of B

I have a '39 B with a Woods L59 mower. No issues with the tractor or mower but I have a linkage behind the rear axle that I can't figure out. The linkage is free and moves and you can see it has a limit adjuster on it. I'm stumped, can anyone provide details? <image...
