New to me 8N, trying to figure out year.

Ive had it over a year now, only thing I would change is that orange dash light I added for indicating “ignition on” is a bit too bright at night, I either need to put a little paint over that light (which is a trailer side marker l.e.d.) or add a resistor to cut back on the voltage to that...

    My 1952 8N Story

If youve rebuilt the hydraulic pump & still have the old parts, this one makes a good “clutch block”.

1951 ford 8n hyd oil and rear end oil

I use the traveller brand 90 wt fromTSC. $30 a jug. yes you can run utf but I prefer to run the heavier oil given the age/wear of bearings & gears. slower to leak out too.

Has anyone coated their N series fuel tank with POR-15?

Ive used por-15 on the entire outside of dads ‘46 2N (except for the gas tank, ironically) then topcoated it with the correct (tisco) dark grey. Was about 10 years ago. Its held up fairly well, a little rust in some spots but it was very rusty to begin with. Ive used it on a few pickup truck...

    tourque specs for hydraulic pump/8N?

Looks like it was lost long ago, I could tell transmission shifter plate had been removed before, all 3 fork to rail retaining screws were there, spring was still there for middle rod detent too. Have hydraulics again, goes higher than it ever has and will work at idle now too. For the...

    tourque specs for hydraulic pump/8N?

From what Ive been able to tell, it might be a shift fork retaining screw& locknut. Guess the next thing is to pull the shift plate assembly & see. Guess I got lucky it didn’t fall between two rotating gears & lunch my transmission. #7245 looks like the piece.

    tourque specs for hydraulic pump/8N?

I went with 40 after consulting a chart, its back together & ready to be put in. Have another issue. Was draining fluid to swap out pump/top plate, started at the back & worked my way forward. not much drained out of the transmission & this bolt/nut fell out. wrench is there for a size...

    tourque specs for hydraulic pump/8N?

Getting ready to reassemble my 8N hydraulic pump, Am not finding any specs on fastener torque, specifically the valve chamber assemblies to the main cast iron pump body. Im surprised the I&T manual didn’t have that information. Amazing how light the pump is with everything out of it.

About to rebuild my 8N hyd pump, any tips?

Waiting on new chamber assemblies, would rather not chance it. Hope I dont have to clearance the tractor housing to get the pump back in. Going to go ahead & completely take it apart tomorrow & clean everything. I’ve watched a video a few times. Took off my rear fenders & flipped both back tires...

New to me 8N, trying to figure out year.

Down for hydraulic lift issues again, did finally find that “cam pin” in the top plate a few people mentioned, mine was half gone. Took apart the linkage to press out pin & put new one in, straightened my control rod arm better too with the press while it was out. Next up is rebuilding the pump...

About to rebuild my 8N hyd pump, any tips?

My 3-point lift finnaly stopped working completely, wasnt surprising since whenever I had the bush hog on it Id have to rev up the engine to get it to lift. (it did still lift with no load but how useful is that?) Already addressed issues with the top plate, new follower pin & straightend the...
