Sounds like power compaines don't like solar energy.

Wow - if his power is going off that much, I would think he would want a generator that was a very reliable back up for his incoming power. The solar generation still would be relevant on it's own merits, assuming the power (back feed path) wasn't cut off too often. If you are trying to...

Sounds like power compaines don't like solar energy.

There in Michigan, you pump water out of Lake Michigan up to a reservoir in the night, and let it run down hill through a hydroelectric system in the day. I bet that is a warm and fuzzy feeling too. I have been told that electricity costs more in the day, and less at night, so pumping at...

Sounds like power compaines don't like solar energy.

Any "net metering" system is still hooked to the grid. If the local transmission lines get shut off, you would still need a generator to supplant the difference in the electrical usage and what any alternative energy sources could supply. "Storage" is a bad idea. Initial cost, upkeep cost...

    Casecc

As ET said below, Force = Pressure x Area of piston. Area = Pi (3.14) x radius squared, or Pi x diameter squared / 4. If you have a 2" bore cylinder, the area would be 3.14 square inches, and at 2000 psi, that would be a little over 6000 pounds of force. If you need 1500 pounds of force, and...

Auburn, IN or Fort Wayne, IN tractor show?

    Alis Diesels

I have an Allis 175D, with a Perkins four cylinder diesel. It seems to be a good motor from my experience, but I don't work it very hard. It has a loader on it, and I mow with it in the summer, and move snow in the winter. I have moved dirt and stone with it also. I haven't ever hooked a...

    engine heater?

My Allis 175D has a freeze plug heater on it. I can start it easily in 10 degree weather after 20 minutes of having the heater plugged in. It doesn't start well when it's cold if it hasn't been plugged in. Randy

    Propane Prices

I paid $1.91/gal for Econogas to fill my 500 gallon tank yesterday. It was $1.72 when I filled in the end of November. I'm in NW Ohio Randy

How much snow did you get?

I'm guessing 6 to 8 inches here in NW Ohio. It's hard to tell since it varies from 1" to 1 1/2 feet in areas. The wind was very strong last night. They were predicting 35mph winds. Hope everyone is warm. Randy

Where do you call home ?

I"m in NW Ohio. This picture is from 2004, but the guessing guru"s are predicting a significant amount of snow for Tuesday, Wednesday of this week here. I put the cement drum on the three point today, so I will have some more traction for pushing snow, if necessary. Randy

    So....digital or mercury

Great subject of discussion. It reminds me of my parents and their friends all talking about the amount of rain they received the night before. My mom and dad even had their "own" rain gauges, and argued over the amount. One would say, "I had 7 tenths", and the other would say, "I had 1 inch...
