IH 504 Gasoline 1967-ish Neutral Safety Switch - Need Info!

I have a 1964 IH 504 gas--it's a one owner tractor that has been on the farm since new. It never had a neutral safety switch. We have old tractors so it's just a natural habit to do as Barnyard Engineering said. It's a good habit for any tractor, sometimes switches fail.

IH 504 Gas - Not starting

A few years ago I had a similar problem with my 504 gas and it started to run terribly. It would barely idle and had to have the choke pulled out. After quite a bit of head-scratching I found that the intake manifold gaskets had deteriorated and it wasn't getting enough fuel.

1953 Super H water in oil

I have had a W-4 (Same engine as Farmall H) and Super W-6 with cracks in the parent bore of the block which would put a small amount of coolant in the oil. The W-4 actually cracked the sleeve too. I also have a Super WD-9 (also has dry sleeves) that I suspect has the same problem but I haven't...

    Farmall unidentified

rustred is correct, it is a W-4. I have a couple of them in my inventory of unfinished projects. It is definitely not a Super W-4, nor is it a I-4 or O-4. W-4's are not particularly rare. IH made roughly one W-4 to ten Farmall H's. This post was edited by Red Mercury on 10/04/2023 at...

    IH 504 questions

John T on this site has a very good troubleshooting procedure for charging systems. Let us know if you would like to see this procedure and one of us will find it and send a link to you. You may be lucky and the generator may only need to be polarized. Disconnecting the battery from a running...

    IH 504 questions

I have a 1964 504 utility gas tractor with T/A that was purchased new so it's sort of a one owner tractor. It has the factory 2001 loader. It has been a good tractor and loader. Reverse is slower than I would like for a loader tractor. I always did think that this tractor should have had the...

International 650 what s it worth

I met an old IH collector (MBcat) who was a regular on the other site until his passing a few years ago. He had a fair way of pricing old non-running tractors. If it wasn't a real rare model but was complete, then he priced them at 2X scrap value. Now that scrap prices are up, this method might...

International 650 what s it worth

Super 9's, 600's, & 650's all had disc brakes. Better bull pinion bearings as well since this was a known weak point on the regular 9-series tractors.

    560 Diesel Starter

Exchange starters from part stores are hit & miss these days. Fitment issues or non-working starters out of the box are not uncommon, offshore parts, etc. In my opinion, you are better repairing the original Delco-Remy yourself or getting a local shop to do it for you if you are not wanting to...

    2001 Loader Needed

I have a 504 utility with a factory installed 2001 loader and the cross piece on mine has also been damaged over the years. I attribute it to lifting big round bales. The cross piece is a weak point and mine has also been repaired and the best thing to do is have a competent welder cut out the...

    WD9 - Thermostat or no?

Regarding cracked cylinder heads and injection pump timing I recommend following the link below then read the posts by MB.Cat. I had the pleasure of meeting him before he passed a few years back. He had a lot of experience with IH gas start diesels. Red Power Magazine TD 9 Head Cracking Problem

    WD9 - Thermostat or no?

My experience with WD-9's is that normally the temperature gauge won't even move unless it is being worked. I can't even get them into the RUN zone unless it is under a somewhat heavy load like cultivating or plowing. If it is running warmer than normal for any reason you run the risk of...

    W9 radiator weight

My WD-9's have the cast iron tanks and sides. I am an averaged sized guy and I can lift it off and on the tractor by myself. Maybe more than 50lbs--I would say more like 70-80 but I am just guessing. It helps to have a bench or set of sawhorses nearby to set it on so you don't have to wrestle it...

    WD-9 won't run on diesel

I had a Super W-6 where a previous owner had cut a hole in the water header plate then brazed a bung in for a threaded block heater. That is the only other possibility for a WD-9. There are no core plugs in a WD-9 that could be removed to install a block heater. I agree with rusted, WD-9's...

    WD-9 won't run on diesel

Yes, plunger is likely stuck. One easy test is to start the tractor on gas and then open the diesel lever without switching it over from gas. If the diesel system is working it will produce white smoke. This is also an easy way to bleed the diesel system if there is air in it. The only block...
