2640 Pressure Plate Adjustment Bolts Loose???

I explained this to the owner, but he said he didn't want to mess with changing the clutch shaft. His call. He did tell me to switch from the metallic button disc to the woven style disc. He changed his mind half way through the repair. That's ok with me.

2640 Pressure Plate Adjustment Bolts Loose???

The flywheel is well worn so the wear surface is about flush with the non-wear surface. The pressure plate, disc, and bearings only had 400 hours. I'm a bit uncomfortable grinding the ends of the shaft. The customer said he didn't want to go any deeper into the repair for fear of opening up...

2640 Pressure Plate Adjustment Bolts Loose???

Well maybe they aren't, but the real reason why the gears were grinding with clutch pedal fully depressed was because the bolts that keep the pressure plate together had all failed!

2640 Pressure Plate Adjustment Bolts Loose???

I agree. I think the input shaft causes the clutch disc to "hang up" on clutch release & could be the reason why the pressure plate rattled itself apart? I can't find my 2640 book to help me find out what's involved in changing the input shaft.

2640 Pressure Plate Adjustment Bolts Loose???

I only mentioned the snubber brake because I found this older discussion topic listing it as a possible issue why the tractor would not go into gear when parked, but result in grinding gears. http://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1145496

2640 Pressure Plate Adjustment Bolts Loose???

Yes we installed a complete assembly. The first picture is the wear surface part of the pressure plate. The second picture is the release mechanism. The snubber brake keeps the gear train from spinning when disconnected from clutch. Yes we have the new clutch parts ready to go in. I'm...
