    MF 205 Industrial insta-reverse transmission

These yellow industrial ones were usually an adapted red ag MF (beefed up front end etc). Find the ag tractor it was based on and then you will have a lot more info to work with. By it's date range and engine size it might be based on a 135 but that's only a guess.

    Backfirin' Briggs

Took the engine off. Pulley doesnt look as if it has slipped and it has the right measurements. Engine definitely never had mounts and it's the correct original engine. Transmission is the correct model and the pulley and fan are attached properly and doesnt look as if the mounting points have...

    Backfirin' Briggs

Thanks Steve. Had a close listen and I'm fairly certain it's at the muffler. This is leaking as it looks like the muffler was damaged at some point and the adaptor flange isn't flush. This fits with your description. Ordered a new muffler and adaptor the other day. The spark plug was also...

    Backfirin' Briggs

Not sure if it's an intake or exhaust backfire.....how to tell? It only happens when slowing engine down and starting (both only sometimes) but never when at driving revs.

    Backfirin' Briggs

I just got mower, used. Spoke to a Briggs dealer who said the carby isn't adjustable. He also suggested a new spark plug which I have ordered. How do I check for a vacuum leak...would I see leaking fuel?

    Backfirin' Briggs

I've got a B&S 28N700 vertical on a riding mower, which sometimes backfires when starting and slowing down. Briggs seemed to have used two different makes of carby:Walbro and Nikki on this engine. Mine is a pump feed Walbro. Both the Nikki and some Walbro's on this engine were also gravity...

Looking for a little bigger truck..

If it has the 1990's, 4M40 engine which I think they had, then beware the fuel pump, they nearly always need the seals replacing (due to low sulphur diesel) and other bits inside need replacing due to wear (no lubrication). Re-build cost around $2000. Mitsubishi parts are not cheap and when...

    Service manual

Get a genuine Massey published manual. I don't like the aftermarket I&T versions....seem to be heavily edited. If there is an operators manual as well as the workshop, I find that useful too.

When one more thing to fix is too much

I think many people, unlike folks on this forum, don't really value their machinery enough to look after it properly...they have the attitude, well if it goes, it's ok. Then when it stops going they sell it and pass on the lack of maintanence to someone else. I just bought a well made, used...

    Wiring Diagram Fir MF285

This may or may not help....it's from the 1985, 200 series workshop manual which covers many 200 series tractors up to '85 but your model isn't mentioned because I think it went out of production a couple of years before that. As far as I know, it's the earliest 200 series workshop manual...

    Deep Cycle batteries?

One thing I would say is essential to ensuring AGM deep cycle batteries last, is to never go below 12v and to try to recharge when down to about 12.3v. I have a voltmeter installed so monitoring is easy When these die, I might go for lithium because with the AGM you need about double the amp...

    Deep Cycle batteries?

If you mean, will it hurt if it is regularly charged but not regularly discharged then I can tell you with my experience with Optima yellow top deep cycle batteries, then the answer is no it wont hurt. I have two starting batteries and two deep cycle Optima's in my daily drive. I use the deep...
