    IH 404 valve under the seat

    I have the opportunity to get this tractor as trade for my 8N. But this valve is leaking. Can you tell me what this valve is called?     IT is not a gasket. there was enough of it left so I could tell that it was a seal of some sort.

    I changed the oil and found pieces of what seems to be an old hard rubber seal. Kind of big. At first I thought it was a piston ring because it seemed to be about that size and the engine smokes real bad. Then I realized it was hard rubber. Can someone tell me what this might be? Thanks

    Connecting implements

    It seems to be fairly difficult to get the arms lined up just perfect to connect to mt box blade or bush hog. Is there a secret that you can share to make it easier.

    I have a 49 8n with a fro?t mount distributor. I have access to the parts off a newer model with a side mount, can I swap them? Is it worth the trouble? Yes I am having problems with the original. Thanks

    Thanks, I am inclined to agree with you. but KNOWING MY DAD, I would still like to verify the coil. He was the type of person who would think that an alternator and a battery was a 12 volt conversion.
