1947 John Deere M No Oil to Head

I have completed disassembled the engine. The plug is exactly in the right position and the rear bushing/bearing is also correctly placed. There is a slotted rocker arm stud in the rear of the head. I applied compressed air to all paths to the oil tube, all are free and clear. I am absolutely...

1947 John Deere M No Oil to Head

Thanks for the reply. I appear to be unlucky. The slotted rocker arm stud is in the correct position. Now, on to the camshaft bearing and expansion plug. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply, sir. Yes, I inspected the installation prior to payment. I did not ask about the expansion plug, however. I should have . . .

1947 John Deere M No Oil to Head

Thanks for your reply, sir. This is why I think it's the expansion plug. It has been a while since I had the block returned from the machinist, and I recall that he 'fished around" for a plug that would fit. I will do a tear-down (cry!) and make a thorough inspection.

1947 John Deere M No Oil to Head

Thank you for your reply, sir. I cannot find any reference to this slotted bolt in the parts manual or service manual for this tractor. Was this a revision that was added later to the 420, 440, etc?

Greetings! I know that this topic has been discussed before but I need some clarification on how far I need to disassemble my engine to replace the expansion plug behind the camshaft. Greetings and Happy New Year! I am installing new pistons after having my cylinders bored out to .090. The aluminum piston kit has two extra rings in the pouch with the oil control ring. Do these two rings go on either side of the oil control ring, 'sandwiching the oil control ring? Many...

John Deere M Starter Set Screw

James, In the picture that you displayed of the set screw and jam nut, are they off of your tractor or did you procure them. I am having a difficult time trying to find the set screw, L 4168 T. Do you have a source, sir? My thanks.

John Deere M Starter Set Screw

Thank you, sir. As I mentioned, when I turned that hex nut, the set screw sheared off level with the frame. I was seeking some advice on you to remove it in this state. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.
