    8N keeps cranking had to disconnect battery

    As Used Red said, disconnect that small wire. If it still cranks, "sometimes" you can tap the solenoid with a screwdriver handle and jar those contacts loose. If you do have to replace the solenoid, don't go by looks. The solenoid on an 8N is activated by applying ground to that little terminal...

    Little help please…dust cover?

    None of the ones I found seemed to fit exactly either, but those look like the ones I ended up using. I think as long as they keep dust out, they'll work. Mine have been in place for 8 years now.

    Thanks Jerry. I'm still kicking, just not as high as I used to! Had a set back with some health issues but I'm back in the shop now. Not planning to open up the carb shop again, but I have a few projects to get to including a 1939 9N and that 2600D I bought a few years ago.

    Thanks John! She's got some scratches on the floorboards since that picture was taken because she's still earning her keep hauling the landscape rake and leveling the driveway. Will definitely need a bath before going to a show! lol

    Hello. New 8N Owner

    That looks to be a side mount distributor with the generator on the left side. I can't see the dash panel/proofmeter though. My eyes are getting bad though, so maybe I'm seeing it wrong?

    Is it an early 8N with a front mount distributor or a later model with the side mount distributor? If it's an early 8N, jumping the ballast resistor on the back of the dash may help narrow down the cause. Later models with side mount would not have that original resistor. They may still have...

    Thank you traxtor. Both the tractor and the spreader needed a little work when I got them but I got them cheap enough to make it all worthwhile.
