    Coolant in my oil

Pulled the plugs and the fourth plug (rear-most) was wet with coolant/water. The other three are dry, so I'm thinking its a blown gasket or cracked head. Didn't have time for a compression test, and not sure if it's needed since the head will have to come off anyway.

    Coolant in my oil

My 8N has served me well the past 8 years, mowing for an hour or two per week. Yesterday, I noticed mayonnaise in my filler cap and I'm losing coolant. Additionally, there's water spitting out at the rear exhaust manifold where it meets the block. I also have white smoke out the exhaust. I'm...

Runs fine then stutters and dies

I'll give that a try. The gas cap has a clear view through the vent in the middle of it. Plus the gas tank is new and it has a vent hole in the top. Coil is new as well and it has a 12 volt conversion. Delco alternator. Also has the Pertronix kit, which I've run for over a year now.

    ORC fit on a 41 9N

I had this issue with my N. Found that there were two different size ORCs and had to get one where the pin would line up. Found it at TSC I think.

Runs fine then stutters and dies

My 52 8N runs fine until it gets good and warm. After mowing for 20 mins or so it begins to stutter. If i pull the choke and put it in neutral, sometimes I can nurse it if I pull out the choke and put it in neutral, but it usually dies, or bucks and jerks so bad, I shut it off. Let it rest a...

Frustrated with the old 8N - overheating

Ordered a new cap from YT. Will have it next week. None of the local shops had a cap tester. One downside of a small town.

Frustrated with the old 8N - overheating

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll stop by Napa with that cap and see if they can test it. If it's bad, I'll put in an order for one from here (unless someone tells me those are poor quality too). One of the worse parts is the leaking antifreeze streaked my new Tisco gray paint job.

Frustrated with the old 8N - overheating

I put the pointy end of thermostat toward radiator, just like I would i a car. I put it in the upper hose as close as I could to the neck on the head. Maybe the TSC cap is at fault. Have people had good luck with the one from here? Would I be better off just picking up a plain ole 4# cap...

Frustrated with the old 8N - overheating

52 8N. Over the winter, I pulled the pan, replaced rod and main bearings with the same size that I pulled and put new gears in the oil pump. Figured that with the hour and a half or so I mow with it each week during the summer, that would buy me a few years until a full rebuild. While it was...

Delco alternator interfering with radiator hose

Thanks Hobo. That sure looks like it would fix it. One of these days I'm going to do that great temp guage install like your's too.

Delco alternator interfering with radiator hose

I was looking at the brackets sold on here. Mine, other than the top bracket, appears to be a home made job, but it looks to me like the stuff sold on here would have the same issue.

    Leaking PTO seal

Have you checked the bolts? Mine was leaking like a sieve and I noticed the bolts were loose. Tightened them back up and fixed the leak.

Delco alternator interfering with radiator hose

Dell, I restored a '72 B. The radiator hose is one I ordered from YT for a late 8N. Here are photos of how the alternator is mounted. It looks like the part of the alternator that rubs will do so no matter how it's mounted.

Delco alternator interfering with radiator hose

My 52 8N had a Delco alternator on it when I got it. I had the sheet metal off this winter and just got it back together. While that was off, I put new hoses on the radiator and put in a thermostat, which it didn't have. The bottom bracket on the alternator pushes in on the lower radiator...
