    Bonding Cast Iron

I somehow managed to break one of the "ears" off my carburetor where it mounts to the intake manifold on my Super C. It was a clean break and the carb will mount up correctly, however it is not overly sturdy, and may allow air to come through the break and past the carb. Whats the best way to...

    too many tools

I have a classic truck with insurance through Hagerty. As part of that insurance I opted for the "Shop and Tool" ad on. They cover up to 10K in tools for fire, destruction, and general theft. For about $20 extra per year on my classic vehicle policy.

OT - Small town vol. fire chief vehicles

This is my biggest gripe with the County Fire Department. They were called out near us recently. Took over 15 minutes to get there with 1 truck. As previously stated in this discussion it takes modern rooms 4 to 5 minutes to become fully involved. So essentially if I had 911 on the phone while I...

    Super C Locked Up

Pulled the plugs and taped the starter and it started spitting water out of the middle two cylinders. I guess my flapper got blown open during a storm and rain made its way down. Runs fine now.

State motor vehicle inspections need opinions

I live in South Carolina (no Inspections) about 2 miles from the North Carolina (Requires annual Inspections) state line. There are a pretty equal number of rusty death traps, bald tires, smoking exhaust, loud exhaust, and busted ball joints on both sides of the state line. Friends in NC pay...

    Ton Truck Question

If you are really wanting to haul just 1-ton, 2,000 lbs, any full sized pick up truck should be able to do that. I used to haul 1-ton of sand and rock in a Chevy S-10 10-miles or so. It was all that old Chevy could handle, but it never failed. I've loaded 3-4,000 lbs in my '01 1500 GMC with...

    Super C Locked Up

I have a DC amp clamp. And it may have been 50 Amps and i've mentally dropped a 0. Its a 12 volt system. I tried spinning by the fan and the belt slipped on the crank pulley. So then I tried by hand directly on the crank pulley, no luck. I will not be pulling it down the highway with the...

    Super C Locked Up

No, I have a clamp on amp-meter and used it to determine if it was pulling power. It was pulling approximately 5 amps, wouldnt budge the flywheel. When loosened and backed away from flywheel, drew 2.5-3 amps.

    Super C Locked Up

If I loosen the starter bolts enough to back the starter away from the flywheel, the starter spins with no problem. Could there still be some sort of an issue with the starter?

    Super C Locked Up

So looks like I need to pull the plugs and get to soaking. I pulled the starter Saturday and it would spin free when not in contact with the flywheel. I'll start a soaking regimen of ATF and Acetone today. Is there a good place to attach a breaker bar to the crank to try to work it? Or is the...

    Super C Locked Up

So I parked my Super C last fall and it was running ok. Go to crank it up Saturday and the engine seems to be seized. The starter engages, then pulls a lot of amps but will no move the flywheel. Tried two batteries, one of which is brand new so its not a lack of amps. Tried turning the crank by...

    Quick change oil service

A good quick lube story: I use a small VW Golf as a commuter car (80 miles round trip to work), its too small and low to the ground for me to change easily. The quick lube place near my office will change it for $19.99 while i'm on lunch. This saves me a lot of hassle, and I dont think I can...

    Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Question

You could remove it, you'll get better milage, more power, and saves money in the long run by not buying Ureia. It's illegal unless its for "offroad use only" but that all depends on the enforcing agency, so take all this with a large grain of salt.

Super C and 140 on the farm

I use a Super C with a 3pt and belly mounted cultivators for a 1/2 acre garden. I can hill and cultivate 2-36" rows at a time. With a 140 you can only work 1 row at a time without a seriously custom setup. The biggest drawback to the tricycle setup I have found is the in-abilty to work one big...
