JD H Wico C no spark, points?

Thanks guys, I get the idea about running gas out to shut down, and I normally do. For safety I'd like to be able to shut it down from the seat in a emergency. The secondary (bakelite)cap on my Wico C is where the points are, it looks like its vintage from the Pearl Harbor era. I'm paranoid...

JD H Wico C no spark, points?

Do any of my wiser counterparts here have a good suggestion how to wire a kill switch for my JD H (w/ a Wico C mag) . I'm resigned to the eventuality that against my better instincts I'll have to drill a hole in the Mag, (presumably in the metal housing?) Trying to think ahead, would I want...

John Deere H PTO shaft comparison

Btw Dan- For PTO replacement, I ended up buying 3 original metal shims for $15, the original PTO shaft had 1 metal shim and a soft shim (with a lot of old gasket sealer on it). When I got everything cleaned up, replacement shaft installed w/ the 1 (original)metal shim, the PTO wasn't free. So...

John Deere H PTO shaft comparison

Thanks Dan, I've cut a piece of heavy gauge plastic as a temp cover for now. I'll be on the lookout for a vintage one (and a master shield) while I'm touring tractor shows this summer.

John Deere H PTO shaft comparison

Well, after I posted this, it occurred to me that I should have consulted the manual (which I just did). It appears the answer is given these are 1-1/8 shafts , my replacement shaft came from a tractor with neither the flipper or master shield, thus it had a cover and a bolt-on guard (cap). So...

John Deere H PTO shaft comparison

I hope someone can tell me what I'm missing here. The attached pics are of my '41 H. I just replaced the PTO shaft (as the one that came with the tractor was bent). The replacement is mounted in the tractor and fits fine (other than it needs a shim). What looks odd to me is if you look at...

JD H PTO / Power Shaft replacement

Just a update on my progress. I located and received a 1-1/8 replacement shaft. I'm glad I had the occasion to drain the rear end, it had at least a gallon of water in it. (presumably via condensation dating back to WWII), other than a little sludge , the inside looks good. I've cleaned it out...

Is there a way to convert a 3pt mower to pull-type (cont

Thanks Barnyard! You were part of the inspiration for this. Now that the mower shaft is left-of-center aligned (parallel) with the tractor PTO, the links & turnbuckles generally hold in that position. No hills or wood-chuck holes here.....

Is there a way to convert a 3pt mower to pull-type (cont

Thanks, you are correct. These things were conceived before OSHA. No fenders doesn't bother me (only because I grew up with them, if I found a reasonable set I would buy and install them), I would be afraid of open wheels w/ snow chains (not a problem here). I'm aware of the unshielded PTO...

Is there a way to convert a 3pt mower to pull-type (cont

Just a update, I posted this last fall when it was just a idea, and got a lot of good inputs from folks, which motivated me to pursue it. I've backyardED a solution here w/ a 4' mower mated to a '41 JD H.(via a 2 pt mount) There are still a few minor bugs (mostly with the tractor) to work out...

    Is this a W9 ?

Many thanks to the panel of experts here. It makes sense that this is a orchard tractor. The pic was taken in the heart of apple country in Central NY. It also makes sense (to me) that a orchard grower would have a front loader (the crates they used back in the 50s would fit well in it for...

    Is this a W9 ?

I found a pic (attached) of a tractor my family had back in the 60s. It was a beast. Anyone know what it is? I think its W9 but I'm not sure. It was a diesel, and it had a hand clutch on the right side. Chris NW Ind has a old post from 2008 of a W9 pic, that almost convinced me except for...

JD H PTO / Power Shaft replacement

Thanks for the tips. I just ordered a 1-1/8 shaft. I hope for a smooth installation. Thanks again

JD H PTO / Power Shaft replacement

Thank you for the detail. I've seen a few shafts come & go w/ a rear bearing housing on them (wished I'd jumped on those now). As you can see by the pic, I only have a flipper guard, maybe I should spurge and buy a new master shield. I see the shims occasionally on line, any recommendations...

JD H PTO / Power Shaft replacement

Im sure the answer exists somewhere here, I'm having trouble conducting a narrow search of the forum. I have a '41 H with a bent PTO Shaft, (its the pre-war 1 1/8 diameter) . I'd need to replace it, I see there are 1 3/8 shafts available on line and I understand they are interchangeable. Is...
