    4250 fan clutch

How can I tell of it's going bad? I cut hay yesterday and it ran towards the hot side. When I shut it down the fan could be spun easily. I have installed alot of the kits to lock them solid but dont remember how to tell if there bad. The tractor has 4500 hrs.

Havent got the SN off the engine yet from him but he did give me a number that he said was stamped on the frame rail up around the engine. D 5450. Would this be the SN for the tractor or just a part number. He says there is no tag on the tractor anywhere just this number. Will get the number off...

    Disc trouble.....

Dick L, Were there any kind of bearing in the hubs on the axle housings? Or did they just pack them full of grease? We took one gang apart to look at it and there was just old nasty grease in there. I have heard that some of them had wood bearings or bushings? Just curious if you knew one way...

Hello all, Recently we acquired an old pull type disc that we can not find any info or brand for. Unfortunately we got it in pieces so I am afraid some pictures my not help. We think it is either a 9 or 10 footer. It is a double gang tandem disc. It has DH part numbers on it but we cant...

    Hauling suitcase wieghts

We haul ours on the tractors and when traveling we have some straps and tie them all together so they don't bounce off. Got to one pull and had a couple laying on trailer deck and decided we didn't need one sailing off and going through windshield of soccer mom van. Now we always tie them down.

A Tractor That Money Cannot Buy

I have two that are mine and one in the family that I wouldn't sell. First is my 1941 JD B. I begged dad to let me have it for years because it was sitting out in the barn in pieces. Finally when I was fourteen, that would be 16 years ago, he gave it to me for Christmas and about a year...

    John Deere STX 46

Good news is I don't think it is the clutch because I unplugged the wires from it and then pulled out the PTO switch to turn them on and it still died on me. So I guess i'm back to an electrical problem and those are the worst kind of problems for me. Much more a mechanical man....

    John Deere STX 46

Hi guys, I have a STX 46 and was wondering if anyone knew how to, and how difficult, remove the electronic PTO clutch for the blades? Is it really as simple as getting bolt off the bottom and sliding it all down or does this require some major engine disassembly? Any help at all would really...

    720 Spark Plugs

I run D21 Champions in all my Deere's, except my D which takes a bigger plug anyway since its a 1931. I haven't had any problems with the Champions so far been running them since I started rebuilding tractors twenty years ago. I went to NAPA and had them look it up since my 720 is an LP and they...

    Super C stuck pistons

I know it sounds crazy but I've had several old timers tell me that water is what rusted it and water will free it up. I agree with the other guys your probably going to have to re-sleeve it no matter what. We had a JD A that the pistons were stuck fast just like your saying. We filled a 55...
