    You definitely do not need that resistor , I figured you meant the coil that came with the EI kit.

    I read some literature saying farmers would remove the resistor in a effort to get more power to the coil for starting but the point life was quit short if I was going to remove the resistor after running the engine awhile I would check the coil for over heating if it over heated I'd reinstall...

    I presume the EI coil would be the automotive type, I used Pertronix 91247xt ignitor II the # 6 instruction sentence says remove all external resistors to achieve optimum performance.

    according Pertronix you don't need a resistor I have ask them.

    Glad to hear I'm not as big a dummy as I thought, at the time I had talked with a Ford mechanic he said those Trans. had a direct but no advice on shifting it, there were other Ford tractors in the area but none had the Sherman Trans. I sold the tractor and the buyer didn't know how to shift it...

    If she's not rattling to bad and your not going to make a show tractor it might be a good idea to let the old heifer rattle.

    Sounds like a missing tooth on first gear pull the shifter cover look inside you'll probably see the trouble however this is just my opinion

    Some years ago I had a 64 ford 4000 4 Cylinder it had a Sherman trans. I ran in low because high was to fast and I thought neutral was direct broken didn't have a shift pattern so didn't know how to shift to direct wish you fellows had been available back in those days good information is worth...

    I would use Traveler Premium Trans / Hydraulic fluid in all compartments you can get it from tractor supply I use in the trans and Hyd. in my 3000 Ford.

    Sir you have a beautiful tractor if mine looked so good I'd drive her to church on Sunday I noticed you have a Sherman over and under mine has a Hupp do those things lube from the main transmission.scopecat1
