    For Tom from Buckeye Lake

I read in an old post that your name is indicative of a connection the buckeye state. Makes sense to me! I had Toledo roots before getting my heels stuck in tar down south some 20 years ago. What I wanted to tell you is that I am new to this board (long time participant in the J-D discussion...

    Mig vs Stick welders

If you were new to welding I would recommend the MIG because it is easier to use. Since you already know how to weld, you may want to get another stick. One advantage of the stick is deeper penetration on thicker material for repair work. On the other hand, the MIG will save you a lot of time...

    wire welder

Finding parts is a big consideration. Welding shops will have parts for the Miller machine. Miller now offers a very affordable 110 volt machine. It may be a few extra bucks but well worth it. Scott http://www.welders360.com/

Building a trailer from a pickup

Looks like a good plan, just make sure you wire wheel all of the heavy rust off before you weld. Scott http://www.welders360.com/

    Plasma Cutter

3/4" with a plasma is allot to ask for unless it is a high dollar machine, I like a plasma for sheet metal up to 1/4" plate. For thicker material you can't beat an oxy-acetylene torch. Another good combo machine is a Hobart Air Force 500 will cut 5/8" for a reasonable cost. Scott Fab...

    Gas Welding Hoses

If you are cutting with acetylene you can use T or R. If you are using any other gas such as propane you MUST use grade T. The safest bet is to use grade T for all gas lines. In 25 ft lengths I like 1/4". Scott Fab Manager http://www.welders360.com/

Welding on tractor - do you need to disconnect electronics?

In theory you won't have any trouble welding on the tractor as long as you have a good ground the electronics won't be affected. The weld itself is a completed circuit back to the machine. On the other-hand, disconnecting the battery is not a bad idea. FYI- I welded on my racecars almost...

    Attaching metal to metal...

Can you nickel weld a tiny stud to the back of the cast and bolt it to the aluminum??? Scott Fab Manager http://www.welders360.com/

    welding a cracked block.

I used nickel rod in a similar application with pretty good success. The trick is to start with a clean surface. Take a wire wheel or a stone to the area and then clean it well with a degreaser. Good Luck Scott Fab Manager http://www.welders360.com/

    Welder/generator question

For most projects that generator would be OK. But if you want full capacity of your 50 amp welder you need a 11,000 watt generator. Scott Fab Manager http://www.welders360.com/

    7018 H4R Welding Rods

I always keep my 7018 rods in an oven The "R" in this spec stands for low moisture absorption rate. The "H4" in this spec stands for low hydrogen content in the deposited weld. Scott Fab manager http://www.welders360.com/

    Welding a Truck Frame

I assume the steel will be pretty rusty so clean it up as best you can and use a 1/8" 6010 rod. A 6014 will be even better. This won't be as strong as some other rods but will be adequate for what you are doing. Scott Fab Manager http://www.welders360.com/

    What would you do

"V" it out and weld the "V" with nickle rod. I once broke a transmission in a crash in a stock car. We welded it with nickle rod and ran it for an entire season. Since you are cutting a "V" you can come back and grind & polish the weld flush and it will look pretty good. Scott Fab...

    removing old paint and decals

I'm a big fan of sandblasting. Not only will it remove the old paint and labels, it will also etch the surface so the new paint will last forever. Scott Fab Manager http://www.welders360.com/

    Stick Welding Sheet Metal

If the material is new use a 3/32" 7018 rod. If it is old and rusty use 1/8" or 3/32" 6011. Scott http://www.welders360.com/
