    48 A Carb questions again

I want to mention this again to make sure everyone seen it and read it. One float went bad somehow it developed a lot of cracks. I put in a new float and set it to 3/8. When I first did this the problem was the tractor would flood and cough when I hit bumps in the field. So I set the float to...

    48 A Carb questions again

I am running Brand new autolite plugs. I can load the tractor down as much as possible and choke it out on flat land and it never misses a beat. It will pop cough and black smoke going up a hill even without a load on it. Load needle is only open about 1 turn. I have took carb apart. The baffle...

    48 A Carb questions again

Thanks for the help everybody. Before this problem I had a problem with flooding out when I hit bumps so I solved that problem by changing float level from 3/8 to 1/2. I still had this other problem previously also. I also have thought maybe on hills the needle is binding in the seat. I will...

Then I can drive up a steep hill with no load on it just riding around and it will cough and pop and black smoke, does the same thing with the mower behind it goin up hill. Does it no other time. I can get on the road in...

    48 A Carb questions again

Well I am having carb problems again with my 48 A. I thought I fixed it after lowering float to 1/2 in. It runs good. I can push the brakes as hard as I can and it will run under load perfect. I can pop the clutch in 4th gear and it does fine. Starts good, idles good. Runs good under load with...

    520 on evilbay

Some people like to refurbish tractors and change things to their liking. I would not bash a tractor for not being original. Me personally I have an A that I have fixed up once already 10yrs ago. In the future I want to redo it 100% to factory specs. The other Jds I have, I am going to redo...

    Carb Question

I held the float in a sink of hot water this morning. No bubbles to be found anywhere. So I went ahead and lowered the float to 1/2.Stuck it all back together this morning, went and mowed in a rough part of the field, seems like problem is solved.

    51 a clutch

Hmm, I figured the bolts should all be the same? I just had the clutch pulley on my 48 A completely off the tractor and toggle bolts out, all 3 were the same length. So I count how many threads are showing on each one so they all have the same tension on them. Clutch has to be pretty tight to...

    51 a clutch

Do you have a washer with each castle nut? That could make the difference if one nut has a washer under and one doesn't.

    Carb Question

Well I just came back in from taking the carb apart. Float level is exactly 3/8, should I go ahead and lower it to 1/2? I put this float in new this spring from Roberts Carb repair. It has a pin hole somewhere. I can barely hear fuel sloshing inside. I never found the hole. I put the float in a...

    Carb Question

This carb was overhauled by Burrey's Carburetor service. He has done three carbs for me for other tractors. This carb was done three years ago. When I went to use the tractor this spring the float had a hole in it. So I bought a new one for it, bet I got the float to high and its doing what you...

    Carb Question

Well I finally got my 48 A back into service. I replaced the clutch pulley bearing and race. I replaced the drive end on the starter. I put in a new set of plugs. I took it out to mow today, first time its done work since this spring. I put in fresh gas and some Gumout gas treatment. Made a few...
