    Prior to security being clamped down, after 9/11, we would go to NAS Whidbey Island every chance we got, for their airshow. The traffic exiting was far more dangerous than the airshow.

    If you decide to do it, make sure to put wedges between the front axles, and the front bolster, so that it doesn;t want to roll over sideways. I always use guide bolts to help align the two halves.

    I agree. Occasionally I take on a wiring problem on a later model tractor, and wonder if I need to have my to have my head examined for saying yes.

    Another handy tool is the right angle, cordless die grinder, with 2 or 3 inch cut off wheels. I have a Ryobi, and use it all the time. They are very controllable. more so than the air grinders.

    I don't claim to be an 8N expert. But I understood that the factory sleeves could be knocked out, the surface honed and the stock pistons and rings from a 60 horse V8 run on the virgin block surface. This came from my old boss, a Ford tractor dealer, and a master mechanic.

    Finally, something I actually NEED for my tool box.

    Threw a 32 oz ball peen at the garage door, many moons ago, in a snit fit. It bounced off the door, hit and broke the ground plug of my new welder, ricocheted, hit the porcelain utility sink, and broke it. Haven't thrown a tool since.

    Stripping 3000 for transport

    The 1500 has a tow/haul function, mine was a button on the end of the shift lever, that keeps it from shifting into overdrive. It should haul a Ford 3000, with the weight balanced just slightly ahead of the axles, with no problem. If it's hitting the stops, you have it loaded way too far...

    In the early 70s I went to Roosevelt , Utah, to do a warranty repair on a Ford 5000. The boss had me stop by a small dairy farm, enroute, to check in with the owner of another new 5000, he had sold to him. The farmer had a Fordson major with a rear loader on it. I don't remember the...

    Mosquito control

    Don't need to read about it. The one next to our newer fires station, grows a fine crop of cattails, due to retained water. It isn't much, but it is there. This year, not so much, we are really dry.

    Or soak them with solvent, and set fire to them, then blow them out, if you are in a hurry.
