574 with d239 - oil leaking and such

Well, today I tried MrFreds idea of filling the blocks coolant passages with water, to the brim. No water seepage. I then drained most of the water out, and taped over all openings to the coolant passages with celo-tape and blew a 10psi breeze through it, as that is the rad cap pressure, and...

574 with d239 - oil leaking and such

I will try that and report back. Am I seeing it right, that there appears to be 2 sleeves? Im hoping maybe they pinned or welded the Crack lower, and installed the repair sleeves.

574 with d239 - oil leaking and such

Well, finally had a bit of good weather to get the head off. Found some interesting news.. Head gasket was leaking oil at the bolt hole closest the front right, between the lifters and front side. But as you can see, there was a much more significant failure. Forgot to take a pic of the head...

574 with d239 - oil leaking and such

Well, I got a replacement bolt in the hole with little issue. It is definition still leaking in that area, believe it is a head gasket. No mixing fluids, but external oil leak and possibly a misfire on cyl 1, plus the slow start. I ordered a top end gasket kit and will get into it next week.

Yes there's a brass gasket there, might try the jb weld. Dont like the idea of drilling and tapping that with the head on..

Well, pretty much confirmed its the bolt up on the head. Here's the leaking oil And here is what I found when I got the epoxy off the bolt head The threads are whooped. It just free spins in the hole, won't tighten. So can anyone confirm whats actually behind it?

574 with d239 - oil leaking and such

Well, my "cheap" tractor i picked up a couple years back is giving me more issues now that its actually running. Yesterday on my first cold start, I noticed there was oil running down the front right side of the engine. Forgot to take a picture while it was wet.. but it was coming from this...

Well, I let it sit for 6 hours. Didn't lose prime, started up in about 10 cranks and then was slow to raise rpm. But once it was running it was mostly fine. Rpm surged a couple times starting a few seconds after I lifted a back blade on the 3pt. Put it under load, moved some brush and dirt...

Just realized it looks like a leak in that pic, its brake clean. It was definitely dry when I shut it down.

Ended up modifying a 5/16 brass compression seal to fit. No more leak from here. Ran it again for a while, im down to about a half tank of diesel so im gonna pick up another 5 gal to throw in it before I fire it back up and try doing anything with it.

I believe this is the part number. 190003559558 This is the fitting 190003559509 Messicks has it in stock. I'll try calling my local Case dealer tomorrow to see if they stock it. Still might try the piece of fuel line to get me by til the part comes in.

Back again with my 574, no start

Well, I got the new hoses made and installed. Got it started and it ran good for a while. I used it for about an hour just moving some stuff around in the bucket, put it under some load, in a high gear up hill. Ran fine for about an hour and a half. Then on a slow trip up the hill it died out...

Got the hose apart and banjo fittings cleaned up. The seal in the compression fitting was whooped too. Headed to grab FI hoses, clamps, and crush washers.
