    Thanks SMOR, I now understand the cork seal could not work, it had shrunk to 2/3 of its original length during the last 60 years. I will now replace it with new ones. Kind regards Sten

    Further to this issue how does the cork seal 8N 4284 function? I understand it is a seal but between which parts is it supposed to seal? Should a sealant be used when mounting it? Thanks Sten

    Thanks guys I am happy to have read this quality thread dealing with the subject. It is very well written... but... All in all my conclusion is that the splines with or without some sort of putty/sealant is the cure/ reason for the leak free future operation. To me this does not sound...

    Have now taken brake drums off as well a spart nr 8n 1171 hub and stud assy. 1 out came some thin shims between shaft splines and hubs. 2 I can see no sealing element between shafts and hub and stud assy looking at the part Catalog page TP 127 2 how on earth can I get this all oil...

    Locking clip ring is off but how could I get the required torque to get the 2" nut off without the the 1171 hub and stud assembly turning around? Thanks in advance
