    New Holland Hayliner Serial Numbers

As much out of curiosity as anything else does anyone know how to interpret New Holland Serial numbers (the ones stamped on the metal plate by the flywheel cover). I have two Super 68s in various stages of disassembly with the following: B681 E 10333 model S68 B681 F 15130 model S68...

New Holland Super 68 Baler Bodywork variants

I have two NH Super 68's in various stages of repair to create the best operational one I can. One has the knotters exposed and the other has a fold up cover over the knotter area (and a few other panel mods over the drive chain to accommodate the hood). Any observations on which is superior...

Advice needed re New Holland S68 feeder/knotter clutch h

Took the plunge and drilled a 1/8th inch hole into the base of the plunger recess and tapped them out with a thin drift. Cleaned off 60 years of gunge and corrosion, nice clean up with steel wool, greased with copper lubricant and they are back in and operating smooth as silk!

Advice needed re New Holland S68 feeder/knotter clutch h

Need some help here. Have been stripping down my standby NH Super 68 which I use for parts and have problems with the clutch hub on the feeder knotter drive. To be honest this whole shaft from the main drive through the tine feed gearbox was a nightmare, with seized woodruff keys and gears that...

    Lubrication on baler chains

Checking out my New Holland S68 prior to the upcoming harvest season and I noticed the pick up drive chain was looking a bit claggy and rusty - checked the others and similar story. Probably should have really oiled them up before winter, but now feel worth while to ease the potential problem...

New Holland Super 68 Knife arm roller

Over the years the brass roller on the end of the knife arm has developed some flat spots. partly due I expect to a build up of crud under the roller which slows and finally stops it rotating. It is not clear to me whether the roller can be replaced without having to replace the entire knife...

    NH68 right side pickup jamming

First of, looks like you got quite a clean and tidy 68 there - so well done. Agree with the comment about the tine bar drive chain - move it one tooth over - that should prevent the rollers hitting the end of the channel. Do check them to see if there is much play since they do wear over the...

    affordable parts for implements

Many thanks for that. I can grab them from the original post. Had a look at the book and it looks good, but hard to get here in Europe and covers more equipment than i need. Downloaded some John Deere baler manuals via Google and have to admit that the detail and quality of illustrtaions and...

    affordable parts for implements

Not related to this thread, but in a posting dated 8/12/2019 you included some images of knotter problems, causes and solutions that were infinitely superior and detailed compared to those in my standard NH knotter manual. Where did they come from? Look like they are from a manual somewhere...

New Holland Super 68 Knotter problem

OK, so my rebuilt Super 68 went out for the first time yesterday and baled 300 nice tight brick without a problem. Then BANG, followed by a louder BANG,knotter bill as first the knotter shearbolt popped, followed by the needle safety latch not moving out the way and the main shearbolt popping as...

Moulding replacement parts in GRP (Glass Fibre)

I am involved in rebuilding (I use that word deliberately - the aim is to have a reliable and robust functioning machine, rather than attempting to recreate a 60 year old machine) a couple of New Holland 68 (and Super 68) balers and have been looking at a few examples being sold for parts (if...

NH Super Hayliner 68 - How to remove pickup assembly

OK, so I don't suppose you have any idea how to remove the locking collars on the drive shaft. I can see the one on the right, but don't see a bolt, screw etc to unlock. Can't even see the one on the left and see no way to get to anything at all. Have removed the sprockets and the big set...

Common problem Areas with old balers

Good point that - so the first piece of advice is always remove all the bales at the end of the season and dry the chamber. A bit of anti corrosion treatment might also be worthwhile, or even a squirt of wd40 to disperse the moisture.

Common problem Areas with old balers

Further to my response in another thread I feel it would be valuable to tap into and document the collective experience of members in repairing old (1950-1990) square balers. They all seem to be very similar in design but do they all suffer in the same way? What are the issues with parts...
