    I have a huge problem

Well, I think that I found the problem...the @#%$ headgasket is leaking and it is leaking all around the outside edge of the head. I checked the torque on them and they are still good and tight (90 ft/lbs). The thing is I had the block and head checked for squareness, then I turned around and...

    I have a huge problem

The hose clamps are tight. The drain plug on the side of the block (that used to be there) now houses a probe for an electric water temp gauge, it does weep a little, but not that much. I will go into greater detail on it tomorrow and see what is up and report back. Jim B :( .

    I have a huge problem

I just got Kay (42 2N) up and running where she will start every time and run great, BUT...I took her out for a little seat time to get the motor broke in and parked her in my garage. This is where the problem comes in, there is a pool of anti-freeze bigger than the motor on the floor. She has...

    Carb/idle question

And to let you guys know the voltage at the coil now, it was 6.8 volts now it is 2.92 volts. Is this within the proper parameters for a 12V system with a 6V coil??? Jim B  .

    Carb/idle question

Okay here is an update that may help to figure some things out. I took some time (actually a lot of time) and read some of the previous posts and found one that Bruce (VA) posted repeatedly like here: http://ytforums.ytmag.com/viewtopic.php?t=546304&highlight=coil Now I took and...

    Carb/idle question

I am really having a hard time accepting that the electrical system will prevent the engine from revving low and high. I changed out the coil, condenser, points and ballast resister just last fall. The tractor sat in my shop since then and did not run until yesterday. Could something like the...

    Carb/idle question

I think that it has to be the carb, because when I first got it; the thing ran just fine...other than not having enough compression. But I had to rebuild the carb due to crap that I found in the tank/sediment bowl/and carb itself. I found rust out the wazoo and one of the jets was clogged up...

    Carb/idle question

It has a new set of points, condenser, plugs and wires. I just rebuilt the carb and reset the float bowl level, blew out ALL the orifices, jets, and even replaced a perfectly good throttle shaft, and the best that I can get is 1600 RPM full throttle and 700 RPM low throttle. I personally think...

    Carb/idle question

Now if Kay had fuel injection I could fix this in a minute, but carbs are a strange beast with me that I can never get set right. I have rebuilt this carb once last fall (so don't ask me about particulates about the carb, I really don't remember) and cleaned a lot of rust out of the fuel bowl...

Leaving tractor out in the rain...

So not to dredge up an old thread, but is there a way to put some silicone sealer on there to seal that up so water cannot enter there? Or is that spot that you marked with the red arrow a spot for ventilation? The reason that I ask is that you mention that there is a felt "gasket" in there...

    Dang mice!

Don't you know that moth balls come from the other side of the lab as polyesters? Do you know how many polyesters have to die just to make a tie???? Jim B :D .

    Seat-time Drought

I may work mine all winter long. I still have to repair my drive, pull some stumps and then dredge a pond out. I figure that by the time that I get to the pond, spring time will be here. I have not had any seat time on my 2N since last year, so I envy alot of guys on here. But I hope that...

    Fun(?) In The White Stuff

Like you, mine is going to have to fix my drive as well. My drive has a wash rut in the middle almost a foot wide in some places and potholes and slide spots, along with my gravel that has been washed out on to the road. But I still have not started mine yet as I have just rebuilt the motor...

    Dang mice!

I seen a rat in my shop tonight while I was working on the wiring for my 2N. The thing was the size of a softball. He tapped me on the shoulder and asked for a smoke!!! I have my air rifle in the shop now for when he comes back asking for something else, hehehe. I will definitely have to...

    water in oil

Not so much experience with tractor motors with over head valves, but with cars, I can say this much...popped head gasket! I popped the one in my turbo charged Thunderbird a few months ago and ruined 6 quarts of full synthetic oil. It looks the same way that you describe, and I have popped my...
