    I've painted a lot of wheels lately. I remove the valve core so the tires fully deflate. I then stick 3x5 cards just under the rim, all the way around the rim. Have not had any issues with overspray, and once done painting just remove the cards, reinstall the valve core and inflate the tire...

    I have a gun like yours, and have had really good luck spraying the Valspar tractor enamel with it. I mix 16 oz of paint with 4 oz of Naphtha thinner. Sprays well and the gloss level is still really good.

    Rough paint job

    I suspect the high temps, humidity and the hot sun load are your main culprits. Make sure the paint is thinned enough to flow through your gun and that you are spraying about 8" from the gun to the body panel.

    Valspar makes a Tractor and Implement paint color called "Transport Yellow" that is pretty darn close to that Tonka yellow. You can buy it at Tractor Supply stores.
