    Another SOS issue

You state that you "drove it off the trailer". I assume that means that the tractor has moved under it's own power since you've owned it. If you haven't messed with the traction disengagement then I can only think of two things wrong- the fluid has drained out or the Torque Limiting Clutch has...

    801 paint

Tony Jacobs recently posted these numbers as the official paint codes for the 801 Red & Gray paint available at your local CNH dealer. I believe he stated that is as close to a perfect match as you will find. Red-Orange: M1J-956-SE Gray: M1J-957-SE

    Bushings on rest-o- ride

A 1/16" thick cut-off wheel in a die grinder or angle grinder will "unfasten" those welds quickly.

    Southbend lathe again

The original South Bend Lathe company went defunct many years ago and the remains of the company was acquired by Monarch. Monarch has all of the records of the old SBL. I provided them with the SN from my old 16" SB and they were able to tell me that my lathe was originally sold to Higgins Boat...

    800 cyl head

Did you buy a used head from somebody? All original Ford heads were machined with the correct seat for the temperature sensing probe to be installed with NO adapters. If your new head doesn't have the seat machined into it then it is safe to assume that someone has drilled it out and retapped...

    Gold Demonstrator

My 971 Gold Demo (painted blue & gray many years ago) had the transmission replacement done according to the instructions spelled out in the Service Bulletin. The SOS was replaced with a factory new (not rebuilt) unit and the tractor's original serial number (65383) was stamped into the...

Ford 4000 just cranks, no start

A stuck (in the closed position) metering valve is not uncommon in the RoosaMaster (Stanadyne) pump. Do you leave the throttle lever in the Off position after the engine shuts down? I always pull mine down about 1/4 of its travel after the engine dies. It seems to prevent a stuck metering valve...

Why do you call it a Jerk O Matic? From your description it sounds like the transmission works just fine.

    1955 950 headlight wiring harness

Look at Dennis Carpenter's part number 310991. That's the headlight harness for the 1958 X01 series tractors but there's no reason I know of why it won't work on a X00 tractor. The hoods and dash were basically the same on all 1955-1964 tractors.

    901 wheel weights

They won't bolt on but with a cutting torch, a welder and a pile of scrap iron they can be attached to your rims.

Here is a tip and a thank you

Remove the small timing window cover that is held on to the pump with 2 screws and rotate the crankshaft until the 2 marks line up. Then remove the timing cover *if it's installed* from the right rear corner of the engine and see if the flywheel timing marks are lined up at 23* BTC. Only after...

Need help identifying a Ford tractor

It looks like you have a "mutt" which is a tractor built from parts from several tractors. The tractor appears to be a basic 1958-1962 871/881 with a transmission that came from a later 4000 series tractor. The EAF engine block was used from 1955-1957. The front axle is a standard Utility/Ag...

    What's this dohickey?

Are you asking about the pressure switch? If so that is the low fluid pressure switch that illuminates the red warning light on the dash. It's an NC switch and fluid pressure opens it which turns the warning light off.
