    Cockshutt discussion

Depends on your definition of best In my opinion, Continental is best for parts availability, Hercules is best for making horsepower and Buda is best for durability. Buda also has my vote for the best exhaust sound. There is nothing sweeter than the sound of a 6B Buda at 2000 RPM full throttle...

    Cockshutt 570 super oil pressure

A common problem of these tractors is the diesel injection pump leaks fuel into the engine crankcase. This dilutes the oil and causes low oil pressure. If you continue to run it this way you will destroy the crankshaft bearings. Pull the dipstick and see if it is overfull and smells like...

    Tire Woes

my neighbor had a similar problem. came to the conclusion that the chinese tubes were made with poor quality material. The tire store told them no U.S. manufacturers are making tubes anymore. Found some old used U.S. tubes and no more problems.

560 Cockshutt diesel hard manual steering

I would stay with the manual steering and try replacing the thrust bearings and possibly the spindle bushings. Also, what kind of front tires do you have? Triple ribs steer the easiest. Truck tires steer much harder. In my opinion (for what thats worth?) The 500 series Cockshutt Gemmer power...

    cockshutt 20 miss

I had a similar problem with my 20. Almost lost my mind trying to figure it out. It idled perfectly and was O.K. under light load but poor the coal to it and it wouldn't go. Turned out the venturi was upside down in the carburetor. It wasn't drawing fuel at high RPM.

    Cockshutt drawbar

You should also be aware that there are 3 different style hitches available on the 20. Be sure you get the drawbar that is the same style as the hitch frame on your tractor.

    Cockshutt 35

the 40, 50, 560 and 570 all have the same rear mount bolt spacing so Herc engines will go into a 40-50 and Buda engines will go into a 560-570. The 35 has the engine mounted further forward because it is 4 cyl engine in a 6 cyl tub. Some 35's had both sets of bolt holes and some only had the...

    cockshutt 560 motor swap

probably because a 262 Buda is a better motor than a 4 cyl. Perkins! More power, much easier to to work on, waaaaay easier to get parts for and a lot cheaper to buy parts for. And they don't make your hands hurt after a day of holding that vibrating steering wheel!!!!!!!!!! Is that enough reasons?

    cockshutt 560 motor swap

I'm fairly sure that if you use a rear plate from a Cockshutt 40 or 50 it will bolt right up. The gas engine components are different than the diesel engine so the plate, flywheel and starter will have to match

    570 PTO removel

I should have mentioned this before but I forgot about the oil getting into the clutch. I had had this concern too so I put a plug in the opening. I wasn't sure if it would get in there but I didn't want to take any chances. I had the top cover off so it was possible to get to it. (barely) If...

    570 PTO removel

Had another thought: Are you using the hydraulic pump? On a 40-50 the shift lever only disengages the pump while on a 560-570 it disengages the pump and PTO both. If you want to retain your hydraulic system you will have to find a factory idle bearing for a tractor with hydralics and PTO delete...

    570 PTO removel

I pulled the shaft on my 570 and also the shift handle. Did it mostly to get a couple more lbs. of weight reduction. I barely made it into the 5500lb class. It does O.K. in 5500 but hooks up better in 6000.

    What motor for a 570 ?

I have a '59 570 that I put a GO339 Hercules engine in. The engine came out of a Case combine. By changing the rear mounting plate it bolted right in. It is rated at 130 HP at 2800 RPM. It won the King of the Hill 6250 lb. award for 2014 with the Oregon Tractor Pullers.

    question for Cockshutt/Coop guys

I used to work in a shop where one mechanic was a @%$hole that nobody liked. Some of the other mechanics (never me) would throw extra parts in his pile to confuse him when he put things back together...............
