    Dain Mower

I have recently completed the family of John Deere horse drawn mowers. I just aquired the Dain mower to go along with my #1, #2, #3, and Big #4 mowers. There is soemthing missing on the lift mechanism of the Dain mower and I am hopeing that someone can take a picture or two so I can maybe...

    1954 JD 60 Clutch

Clutch brake is way out of adjustment. It needs to be tightened up to activate sooner. Watch the belt pully when you are pulling the clutch lever back, it is most likly being pulled to the left (direction of travel). When this happnes you are engaging the outer friction plate to the driver. The...

    John Deere M Starter

Agreed do not change to 12 volts, there is no need to do this. the 6 volt system worked fine for over 60 years, why change now. Check the timing of the distributor. I have seen this on my 1950 John Deere M where the distributor was timed incorrectly. The starter would turn the engine over...

    1948 model M planter

There are several different planter / dresser options depending on which cultivator you have. This is what I know was made, this is based on the manuals that I have accumulated over the years. M10 series Cultivator #100 - one row side dressing attachments #111 - one row planting and...

    hydraulics in JD 40

I have had the same thing happen to my John Deere M. Over a period of time moisture accumlated int he hydrualic system and the water froze up. This would not allow the oil to suck back through to the pump. I let the tractror run for awhile to melt the ice and then I drained the system. I...

    4020 Hydrualic Pump

The threads that hold the plug (valve) in blew out. Years ago I had the same issue and I had the plug drilled and tapped oversized and made an bushing to adapt the valve into the oversized plug. This was done a couple of times over the years. Its time for a new pump.

    4020 Hydrualic Pump

    New Holland 488

Is a discbine really better? That all depends on the application. There are a lot more moving parts and gear boxes to maintain. This means more issues, unless you plan on trading them in every few years. The parts are also expensive to rebuild the gear boxes; I have been down that road looking...

    John Deere A governor

I have a 1951 John Deere A, I would like to put live hydrulics on it. The easy thing to do is to find a pump that goes between the governor and the distributor, but I just dont want to do that quit yet. Can you take a governor and hydrualic pump from an early John Deere 60 and bolt it on to my...
