Have I shortened my lawn tractor life?

These engines are designed to provide maximum efficiency at 3600 rpm. When you're under full load, that's the speed they should be running at.

    false advertising

I haven't seen that ad, but I have seen claims of unrealistic horsepower ratings that are probably not possible. 212cc engines that produce 7.5 hp? 301cc engines making 10hp? I don't think so. I suspect the oversight of that type of advertising is no longer being enforced.

    Motor Oil...

I don't think it's possible to keep just one oil on the shelf with modern engines. My truck and tractor (diesel) use the same oil, but my diesel car is different. It would be a waste to use $11/qt oil in my lawn mowers. I tend to follow the manufacturers recommendations.

John Deere 140 mower deck spindle tightener spring question

The only other thing I have to add is that a lot of times you can find springs and other components used on ebay for a fraction of the cost of new.

John Deere 140 mower deck spindle tightener spring question

I don't happen to have one of these decks in front of me, but what you say sounds right. Also, and this is unrelated, I have had to bend the arm that the tensioner pulley is mounted to and shim underneath to get the belt to ride in the center of the pulley.

Looking for a Low to Medium Speed Angle Grinder

I have a 3 speed 4 1/2" cordless angle grinder that I bought about a year ago on Amazon. It looks a lot like a Dewalt product and accepts Dewalt batteries, but is not a Dewalt product.

    baur angle grinder

I recently discovered that the brushless Bauer has a lot more poop than the one with brushes.

    New alternator

An alternator equipped with a self-exciting regulator (also known as a one-wire alternator) would not need an exciter wire to start charging.

    Single front wheel

Sir, you're replying to an 8 year old post. The odds are not in your favor, but best of luck anyway.

    fuel or fool

The fuel you buy at the gas station would be ultra-low sulphur diesel. I doubt heating oil would be that same classification, even though it would likely work fine in older engines. I would not use heating oil in a modern, efi type engine.

Trouble light with hook on top that swivels

I've had pretty good luck with the various magnet lights that Harbor Freight sells. They're not rechargeable, but the batteries last quite a while.

Why is there a price difference

At least once a year I find myself reminding others that the retail price of things has very little to do with their cost.
