    Welding test.

Tell me whats the issue with a stray arc. Is it a professional quality of work appearance thing. Or is it a problem with material strength or damage? Thanks Tim

    broken bolt

Did you weld a washer and nut onto the broken bolt? It says you welded a bolt on. Looks like a nut, nice idea, bet the heat helped with the removal. Tim

    Tecumseh head bolts

Thanks you guys for the tips. I have not tried removing them yet. Just concerned because they are old. This is a 7hp snowblower engine, probably 30 to 35 years old. I just needed some ideas incase I got a tough one. Thanks again, Tim

    Tecumseh head bolts

Before I attempt this. I have to replace a valve spring. I need to remove the head bolts (rusty) and head. I"m looking for advice on removing these head bolts without breaking them. Thanks, Tim

    Harbor Freight Question...

Make certain you own a metal detector, to find nails and spigots. Make certain you know how to sharpen a blade. Sharpening is key. Tim

    stihl forestry clearing saw

Check the carb for a very fine screen filter. Remove the bowl, its about the size of a pencil eraser pushed into a drilled port. My weed whacker had this problem and kept getting worse till it did not run at all. Cleaned the screen, good to go. Tim

    How to Drive a Bobcat

I have ridden a unicycle. The great thing about this guys ability is how smooth he is with the control. I have seen people drive these so herky-jerky it would make Niel Armstrong puke. Tim

    Back lapping a mower

Viscosity matters. I tried again and thinned the mix some. Results were better. The material has to be able to move to allow constant cutting.

    Back lapping a mower

Thanks for the comments. I do have a Foley portable back lapping setup. I think I will thin the soap/grit past so it moves around more. I'm gonna try to oil again just for comparison. Tim

    Back lapping a mower

In the past I have used silicon carbide and 90wt oil for lapping compound on a Locke reel mower. Worked nice. This time I used dish soap and silicon carbide (easier cleanup). It did not seem to produce the sharp edge as the oil did. Is it possible the soap would be that much different, all else...

    FS55r STIHL

Yes! I have the same trimmer. 2 years ago had the same problem. Remove the carburetor there is a plate on the bottom. Under there is a fine mesh filter pushed into a hole in the bottom. This is about the size of a pencil eraser. I almost missed it since it appears like a solid bottom hole. Clean...

    Cordless Hammer Sumthin?

Went to a Lumberjack festival recently. Guys were spiking logs together with what appeared to be a cordless hammer drill. Then they could pull the spikes later with the same tool. Nice! Anyone know what type of drill / hammer tool these are? Thanks, Tim

Hand tools with broken wooden handles

Oly, I of the same ilk you are. I love old tools and like to fix things. I enjoy traditional wood working too. So I designed and built a shaving horse to make my own handles from trees. If you like to tinker this is great fun. Tim
