    i think i figured it out. i dry fit the pump with no shaft, i didnt realize the brass sleeve in the pump inserts into the case that supports everything. i wasn't focusing on getting that lined up. i think ill be able to get it now. do these pumps use any lubrication besides diesel fuel? what...

    They were. I checked for TDC, shaft gear dot alinged with idler dot,and two dashes on pump lined up. i think part of my problem might be that the drive gear on shaft can shift away from pump when that little retainer spring compresses. im thinking i'll leave gear cover off and try to...
