Case VAC Starter - How to test

It's been 35 years since I used a growler, but that's what you need to check your armature properly for shorts. I believe every segment / pad on the commutator should have continuity to every other pad, and that it's possible to have a open segment.. or worse yet, a dead short.

    Plow ID

I finally found a BX14 number on the molboard today which searches indicate that number on a Case / Grand Detour plow. Now that I know what brand it is, how do I determine the model of the plow so that I might find a manual, illustration, or other help?

Any case folks near San Antonio?

    Plow ID

I found photos of a Grand Detour Plow, and a Case Plow, that both have a very similar looking chain operated trip mechanisms. And I find out that Case bought out Grand Detour. If anyone has photos of either with the chain drive trip, I'd love to see them, and of course, find out the model of my...

    Plow ID

Leroy, My grandfather had a F-12 and F-14 IH Farmall early on in Minnesota, but he wasn't one to buy anything new that I can recall, lol. I may start taking a little section of the plow apart at time, fixing it up, and re-attaching, so hopefully I'll find more casting numbers. Thanks, Tom

    Plow ID

Bob, Thanks, that clears that up for sure, as that one part did say "John Deere" on it, but no others. There's not one part that isn't wore out or that my grandfather didn't weld up, but I'd like to get it "usable" again if I can figure out what it is. I haven't seen any Internet plow photos...

    Plow ID

Thank you, I'll concentrate on those two. I didn't see any photos with the chain operated lift last night, after searching, but will keep trying! P.S.- I did not find any casting numbers on the main rails.

    Plow ID

Thanks for your reply. I had a few casting #'s from yesterday, but I'll look at the beams this morning. Some of the numbers were hard to read, but this is my best guess..... Disc bracket / yoke D517-A Hitch 1486L Rear wheel hub T235 Clutch housing 1448A Photo of the hitch attached. Thanks, Tom

    Plow ID

I just dug an old two bottom plow out of the woods yesterday, that I'd like identified so I could find some information to fix it up to use. FYI..... the "green stuff" on it is not John Deere paint, it's moss, but it may be a JD plow. A make and model would be great! Thanks for any help.

    12 volt coil voltage

Brand new points, and tractor is running great, so I guess I don't know either!

    12 volt coil voltage

Old, I checked the coil voltage as you suggested today. With the ignition on, I cranked the engine over by hand very slowly, and read the voltage thru three cycles of points opening and closing. The "closed" voltage varied from about 3 to 4.7 volts, and the "open points" voltage averaged...
