Preparing for my first 332 winter

Not a plow guy on garden tractors... I run back blade on an 8N for my plowing reference... With a plow, you're going to want to think about what you're getting over the whole season. In other words, you're going to need to start the season pushing further out of the way than you need, because...

Summer & winter blend for diesel

When my father bought a little VW diesel commuter car in '78 I believe, the winter operating instructions also included the gasoline in the fuel... 1 gal of gas in every tank in the winter. Never had an issue if we did that. Forget, and we'd have issues, because dad was running fuel oil at the...

    Independent Float on 3 Point

That's the issue with the Float term... INDEPENDENT float is the issue. I'm aware the arms will float together on almost any tractor. I need the flail to follow the ground, regardless of say a rear wheel dropping in a hole. Say it's the right rear wheel, that would cause the arms to...

    Independent Float on 3 Point

I'm kinda casually on a slow speed search for a tractor to dedicate to my Mott flail. I've used it happily with my MF 135, but I have to remove the lift links and replace them with chains so I get independent float on the arms. I always thought that better described as roll, but either way...

1 piece aftermarket wheels for 8n

Never found the rim and dish to be a headache... We used to change the wheel width a couple times a year, and even then, it wasn't bad. We haven't changed the set in decades now, so I don't even think about it. As for the CaCl... Well, I haven't thought about that on the N either since we...

    Rear Finish mower

Well, since we're spending your money, I'd be looking for a new used finish mower... Used equipment brings far more money than it should unless you're selling it, in which case it's worthless apparently... Seriously, a used finish would be a lot easier than the work to put yours back in...

How to read a voltmeter like a pro

Can't point you in any particular direction... I love my digital meters... Until I have to work on an old tractor. I pull out the analog for that work so I can get a decent reading. Having the needle calms the readings down so it isn't jumping all over the place.

    Save or scrap

Having just gone through the estate clean out nightmare, I'd say, if you can rehome it easily, then do that. Someone for sure wants the weight, and likely on the tin. However, I reached the point where finding new homes for things became a headache, and was keeping me from making meaningful...

    A waste of time ?

I just went through an estate auction... My folks were hoarders, so there was a lot of stuff. I was cleaning and prepping full time for basically 4 months After all that time, and effort, things only bring what they bring. There was no point in my uncle spending a week getting wheels turning...

    Bouncing flatbed trailer

11 years on a trailer tire is a long time... I'd be looking at doing them regardless at this point. I do spend the little bit of extra to have my trailer tires balanced. All my trailers have pulled just fine empty since I've put on new shoes, and balanced them. When I bought them used, the...

    Gallons per hour.. average?

Well that would do it. Thanks for the answer, and good luck.

    Gallons per hour.. average?

Perhaps I missed an earlier post, so forgive the question... Why would you put anything other than a standard tank on your N? I mean the design has kinda been proven out over a few years, and number of machines... Plus, it's gotta be easier just bolting on a new one rather than designing...

Calcium or Antifreeze/water in the tires?

I run with CaCl in all the rears. Yes, in my 50 years on the planet, we have had to replace rims as a result. 5 tractors, and we've lost 4 rims to the rust. We're heavy hobbyist level users, and the rock in PA isn't kind to tires, so I just don't get the fear of CaCl that some folks have...

    JD300 Tractor/Backhoe

The 300 was mostly a 1020 with some more industrial parts I believe... I don't think you need to worry about that 300 being a piece of junk. Mine has been in the family since before I was, and is rock solid and reliable. Obviously in the 50+ years we've had it, there's been maintenance, but...

Parking brake hand lever for MF202

I've found I can flip the lever on both the 202 and 135 with my toe, then a quick press of the peddle sets, or releases the brake. Some days, some boots, it's a pain... Most of the time it's fine.
