1927 Buda - Blow by - rings or valve guides

I tried the ATF/Marvel Oil soak. Compression got a bit better but the oil still blows out of the oil filler spout at higher RPMs. I hooked an air hose up to the lowest compression cylinder (at top of compression stroke) and I could hear the air coming out the oil filler spout. Strange, the...

1927 Buda - Blow by - rings or valve guides

Thank you guys! I am a bit of a rookie on diagnostics but did some youtube research. :) I will try to get a loaner leak down tester. Also, I will take the cap off the oil filler tube and see if the blow by seems like it's coming from one cylinder. The truck sat in a junkyard for 30 years...

1927 Buda - Blow by - rings or valve guides

Hey guys, I am getting blow-by with oil coming out of the oil filler tube and dipstick hole on a 1927 Buda HS-6. How do I tell if it's the rings or the valve guides? If the guides are bad, the pressure when the exhaust valves open would still go into the crankcase, I am pretty sure. See...

    Buda HS-6 oil pressure

That is correct on some Buda motors. Not on the HS-6 though. Thx.

    Buda HS-6 oil pressure

Thanks, good idea! I may try removing some shims next time the pan is off. Maybe get some Plastigauge.

    Buda HS-6 oil pressure

Thanks for the advice guys. I just recently started the engine after the truck was sitting in a junkyard for 40 years! I adjusted and lapped the vales, scraped off the carbon, and rebuilt the water pump. Fixed a crack in the manifold. I dropped the pan and cleaned three inches of gunk out...

    Buda HS-6 oil pressure

I have a 1927 farm truck with a Buda HS-6 engine. Oil pressure is low after it heats up. Cold, it's around 25 lbs at 1000 RPM. Warmed up, it drops to 10 lbs at 1000 RPM. From Buda literature: 6 cylinder engines, page twenty nine: http://gotfredson.org/models/6_cylinder_engines.pdf...

Pitted 1927 differential - the right stuff?

Thanks again everyone. I already have the right stuff so will give that a try.

Pitted 1927 differential - the right stuff?

I got a really pitted differential housing and cover on my 1927 Gotfredson farm truck. Do you think “the right stuff” gasket maker will work on this?

1927 Gotfredson Truck - Clark differential

I removed the felt seal. It sits inside a metal channel on the inside of the gland. So I guess a modern, metal seal would not fit inside that inner channel. Maybe a rubber seal with a spring would fit in there. https://photos.app.goo.gl/5muB3iugJG4ca5fQ9...

1927 Gotfredson Truck - Clark differential

Ok removed the lock pin and unscrewed the center gland (10 complete turns out to remove it). I found there was no washer or felt seal underneath it. Instead, the felt washer was just a donut that went around the shaft, and it gets sandwiched between the shaft and the drive shaft flange. Not...

1927 Gotfredson Truck - Clark differential

This patent appears to be related. Note the collar and gland: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/64/0f/97/de4fee02e4d6fc/US1512402.pdf

1927 Gotfredson Truck - Clark differential

I called that phone number above and they have no knowledge of Clark differentials that old. They thought I was joking when I said 1927. I will slide the yoke back on and feel for play in the gears. Then, I plan to mark the notches with a paint pen before unscrewing them. The vehicle is...

1927 Gotfredson Truck - Clark differential

I will give them a call. I believe the truck came with a Clark B307 but it could have been changed out over the decades. It appears to be similar to this rear end mentioned in an article from 1921: https://photos.app.goo.gl/9ZVfo458cGgPu2PT8
