    Bent starter shaft

Thanks, Royce! I'm gonna see if I can tweak it back into closer alignment; if that fails, I'll definitely be in touch! -N

    Bent starter shaft

Yes, it seems to be bent from the bushing out; the armature spins freely. I was wondering if it could be straightened the way you describe; I don't have a press, but I'm sure I can jury-rig something to get it back closer to true. I honestly don't know *when* it got bent; this is the 2nd...

    Bent starter shaft

Had to replace the starter gear on ol' Suzabelle; when I took the old one off and spun up the starter to deburr the shaft, I noticed that the far end of the starter shaft has about a 1/16-1/8" wobble to it. I'm guessing that the shaft got tweaked when the teeth broke and jammed the starter...

    8N Proofmeter cable

I found it easiest to hook up the governor end first, spinning the proofmeter end of the cable with one hand until the governor end slides home. Screw that end down, and bump the motor over if necessary to get the proofmeter end to align. Tighten both ends snug, and enjoy!

broken piece of metal in starter?

Are those "shards" pieces of the starter gear teeth? As long as the starter motor itself is ok, it's a lot cheaper to just replace the starter gear. There are plenty of threads here on just that topic, that's how I figured out how to replace the broken starter gear on my Suzabelle! :)

Another use for the boom pole

Hey Kirk - OT, but can you post a couple pictures of you seat mount? I'm looking to replace/raise the seat on my 8n to give my old knees a break - yours looks MUCH more comfy!

    Prepairing for moving snow

Hey Kenockee- I plow my 800' driveway with loaded tires and no chains. If you decide to go the loaded route, I highly recommend that you have John at Great Lakes Tire set you up with Rimguard (beet juice) which won't rot out your rims!

Never seen this on a N before

There was one for sale about a mile from me - sat by the road for 5 or 6 years... owner had a crazy high price on it. Wonder if he actually sold it, or just moved it out back with the rest of his "treasures"....
