Major rebuild of MF 240 Hydraulic system--what is required?

Thanks for everyone's help on this problem. This post was really an add-on to the other one about not having good response from the Position/Draft controls using a box blade. I was really asking, "worst case scenario" if I were to throw parts at it and replace everything suspect, what would I...

Major rebuild of MF 240 Hydraulic system--what is required?

Yes, I have a manual, and I THINK I understand it all. I mentioned the noise in constant pumping mode just as a possible clue. Even in a constant pumping application, there would have to be times when no oil is flowing, and I wouldn't expect that to cause it to make the inconsistent...

Major rebuild of MF 240 Hydraulic system--what is required?

Assuming one had decided to do a major rebuild on the hydraulic system of an MF240, what would one replace? I assume the pump itself would be one of those items, and I understand how expensive it is, but after a lot of frustration with the hydraulic system response, I'm willing to consider it...

    MF 240--Lift has insufficient power?

On my MF240, when using a box blade, if the implement becomes even 1/3 full of dirt, it seems unresponsive to small movements of the position or draft controls when trying to raise it, as if there is not enough power to lift the implement. The only way it responds is to pull the position lever...

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

Over two years ago, I bought the S.43773 power steering cylinders listed on this site to replace the leaking ones on my old tractor. When I received them, I soon realized they required new hoses with hard-to-find banjo fittings. Worse, the steering arms had to be removed and re-machined to...

Lift position adjustment when using box blade

I assume you mean to remove the top cover and inspect what is behind the top link piston?

Lift position adjustment when using box blade

I have trouble controlling the depth of my box blade on my MF 240 (UK built). I’ve been told by folks on this forum that scrape blades and box blades don’t require using the Draft control. My problem is this—as the box blade fills with dirt, I cannot raise it a small amount using the Position...

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

David P--yes, I would definitely be interested in seeing some web pages of suitable fittings. Thanks! I have looked at AGCO, but only briefly. Yes, they look to be a good source of original part numbers. But it also appears I would have to order through a local distributor. I tend to be...

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

GBS, thanks for the info. But these are definitely just straight threads. I'm very familiar with SAE and other O-ring ports, and these are definitely not O-ring ports. I have all the O-ring port-forming tools for SAE ports, and if these weren't so close together, converting them to the next...

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

Thanks, David. You are correct about this tractor not being equipped originally with Hydrostatic Steering. These were just the only cylinders I could find that were not incredibly high priced and I could see I could make them work. I'm not sure exactly what Hydrostatic Steering is, or how it...

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

David, here are pix of the original cylinder and the replacment cylinder. I read on another forum of someone having this same problem and that he had new hoses made up and "reamed" out the tie rod socket in the steering arm. But the post was a couple of years old, so I did not try to reply to it.

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

David, I ordered these cylinders from YT and they were listed as "replaces 3401553M92". Most cylinders I could find that were listed as direct replacements had tie rod ends on BOTH ends of the cylinder. This one that I ordered had the large pivot pin on one end (like mine) and the (larger than...

    MF240 Lift arms uneven

Thanks to those of you who said one or both of the lift arms could be bent. Yes, indeed one of them is bent. But when I look at it, it appears to me any force large enough to bend that Big Bertha would have ripped the lid off the tranny. Maybe that is why there is evidence someone has removed...

    PS cylinders on 1984 MF240

I'm sure this must be a common occurrence, but I can find very little info on it. I need to replace the PS cylinders on my tractor. The OE cylinders do not seem to be available anywhere, so I purchased the cylinders many sites sell as the replacement for the original. The replacements appear...

MF 240 Draft Position--How is it SUPPOSED to work?

Roy, I was wondering if something like that existed. I think I'm going to weld up something and attach it to my box blade to try it. Thanks.
