I go along with maybe a new belt, I'm sure you saw the bolt that was mention below that tighten the belt. Also check the alinement from the body of mower to cutter bar, sometime that will cause a problem. As far as causing a bad crank, keep a close eye on the cotter pin in the castle nut.
