    Ford 4000 won't shift into reverse

    When I moved the tractor today, it would not shift into reverse. All other gears work. I have never had any indication of a problem. It is a 1972 model,as best I remember with the 8 speed,1-4,reverse and a high low range. Any ideas on what may have come unbuttened would be appreciated.

    I've done the 2x4 thing and it is definitly disengaging, just won't stop turning, so that leads me to the brake. I understand that this has been an inherant problem with this tractor.     Ford 4000 PTO not stopping when disengaged

    I have a post 1968 Ford 4000. The Pto continues to turn when disengaged. I suspect a problem with the PTO brake system. Are there any known problems that are likely to be repaired without splitting the tractor to get at the assembly. I obviously don"t want to do that unless I have to.
