    D4 7U winch models?

Correction, the ad I'm looking at for one says hand clutch with reverser, not power shift.

    D4 7U winch models?

I have been cruising around allied winches' website & have downloaded several manuals. They just didn't go into detail as to wether or not they would fit the older machines. What was common knowledge, has now been forgotten on 40+ year old equipment. One last question: if a dozer has a hand...

    D4 7U winch models?

Thanks old magnet! This just made my life easier in trying to source a winch for my machine. So does that make the D4F more desirable then? Also do the E & F models run a PTO throughout their production, or is there a cut off?

    D4 7U winch models?

I've been looking for a D4N winch for sometime now, with no luck. I know that the D4, D4D & D4N models all fit the 7U series. What about the D4E? The parts manual shows the drawbar modifications for the 6U-7U series. Is this correct? The D4E models seem to be more plentiful than the others. Thanks.

    chunk of bell housing

Always braze cast iron. It is much stronger than welding with nickel rod. Nickel rod will make it brittle, and changes the cast iron metallurgy so it cannot be brazed in the future.

Car differenial for post hole digger gearbox?

Lincoln has 5 books titled arc welded projects 1-5. All built/designed by high school/vocational students that span 60 years. The first three have TONS of farm/shop equipment. For $65 they are a wise investment for the DIY person. I've built several items out of there.

    Chains and binders

Also check out places like prime fasteners, alma bolt, Midwest fasteners, etc. They are supply houses, but typically sell to individuals for less $ than they do to contractors if paying in cash.

OT - AC stick welder to DC

6011 is the AC version of 6010. It WILL weld through anything while having a high penetration. If your welds look bad with it, YOU need more practice. 6013 is primarily an AC rod usually used in the flat position. It has low penetration, and usually used for welding thinner plate steel together...

    Thinning of Transmission Fluid

Dale, I live in Midland, 45 min west of the bay, and run 80/90 ep gear lube all year. Winter operation on fire up is disengage PTO, depress clutch start and run, then walk away for 10-15 mins. Go back, engage PTO and go away for another 10 mins. It'll still be slow for awhile after that, but not...

    Need expert advice

Do what John said, but drill a decent hole first. As the heat from welding the nut on gets hotter, things must expand. This also helps to reduce pressure on the threads.

    OT Pocket Knife

Some Buck knives are China, some are USA made. I paid $60 for my 3" folder 4 months ago. Bought it at cabela's, made in USA. All other stores were China junk for half the price.

    why is the axle weak?

Royse & everyone else, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing on the suitability of these tractors for various tasks. I've just never seen a collective discussion/opinions as to why & what the flaws are for the axle. It's better than getting not suitable, or to weak without much of an...

    Cletrac ID

Not necessarily, pre-war ag's ran a Hercules ooc engine. I've got a 1940 AGH with the herc in it. War time models ran the continental 6 cylinders. Check out cletrac.org

    why is the axle weak?

So pretty much the stronger axles use a solid beam or heavier tube steel with larger hubs. Anything else I'm missing?
