    From my experience, make sure that you have an ample supply of penetrating oil, patience, and words when widening the front. That goes for both the axle and the tie rods. There would be similar complexities if trying to move the rears.

    In dry conditions, you can get by without. If any hint of moisture in the ground, they'll fill up with mud. If you allow any buildup, they essentially will become a roller. It is doubtful if scrapers could be found for that disk today.

    If you want depth of cut, you need to slow down your ground speed. Speed is impressive but accomplishes little.

    If you are determined to have a cover crop, reduce the rate of oats by half. Fall seeding drastically reduces your competition with weeds germination in my experience. Fall seeded lawns always have better germination and stand than spring seeded ones.

    Patience and multiple applications of your favorite penetrating oil may also help. If one beats on that outside tube too much or too many times, it won't come out.
