    problems with JD 2440 SCV

Great! I'm just trying to post a solution for another poor sap like myself who didn't know what he was doing.

    problems with JD 2440 SCV

2 of the valves have o-rings and backup rings on the top and 2 of the valves don't have the o-rings and backup rings, so I would disagree that they are identical.

    problems with JD 2440 SCV

OK, I got this fixed. Here is my overall set of problems and fixes.. I couldn't stop the leak until I changed the two o-rings on the handles. The other packings were not the problem. When reassembling the SCV, the cleaner, the better. I had it cleaned with a high-speed wire brush rotary...

    problems with JD 2440 SCV

One last thought...I'm also questioning if the spring lengths have to do with the position of the handle when installing. I.E. one side of the valves are slightly depressed and the opposite diagonal side is slightly out. Do I just match the spring length to the sides that are depressed? I.E...

    problems with JD 2440 SCV

I have an early serial number JD 2440 with SCV's that were rebuilt 2 years ago. Unfortunately, about six months later (after warranty ran out on repair) they started leaking. After multiple times having them on and off, changing packings, and gaskets and such. I believe I finally found the leak...

    40 series dual SCV handle

I tried a solution I found on a combine forum by Alberta Buck in a 2018 post. I cleaned up the covers with brake cleaner and steel wool. I applied a thin coat of silicone to the packing holes and let it dry before repeating. Then I coated the packings with a thin layer of silicone. Not sure but...

    40 series dual SCV handle

This morning I used an air compressor and soapy water to look to see where the leaks were coming from more precisely. Air comes out of the bottom of the case at the small indents/weep holes on the side of the bottom case lid.

    40 series dual SCV handle

OK, I tried to add some thin backup rings below the packings on the bottom of the SCV and that didn’t work either. Leaked worse than ever. I’m at a loss? Wish I had never messed with it as the first leak was much better than my current problem. To recap…my original leak on the top of the SCV...

    40 series SCV housing leaking

I’m using all John Deere parts. Sorry about the double post I couldn’t edit the title and my problem has changed so it seemed like the better way to go. The picture of the inside of the svc is the spare one I bought. I noticed it is dirty and discolored. The two that are on the tractor currently...

    40 series SCV housing leaking

OK need some help to figure what I’m doing wrong on an SCV case on a 2440. I have two SCV valves. They started leaking between the two housings on the top. I had these rebuilt last year by a local shop. They worked fine for about a year and then started leaking. I took them off and replaced the...

    40 series dual SCV handle

Here are where all the packings go that I replaced. Not sure of the name of the small cylinder I’m holding, but it has a white plastic ring that is separated in the middle. And then a rubber O-ring. I guess those are the next things I would have to replace, but I’m just not sure why these would...

    40 series dual SCV handle

This is where it originally leaked from the top. No longer leaking there. Just the bottom.
