    Replacement Fuel Tank

Interesting, Gene! I didnt think about fiberglass working on a metal tank, but if that would stick, it may be a last shot option to save it. Looks like that would be about another $100 for the material.

    Replacement Fuel Tank

I actually did have at least a welder work on it. I thought I had one leak, but he pressure tested and applied nice patches over several holes (not cheap). Unfortunately, after I gave it a good cleaning, more pinholes appeared. If I had cleaned it better from the start, I may have realized...

    Replacement Fuel Tank

Definitely not available direct from JD any more, but there appear to be at least the metal and fiberglass aftermarket options. There may be just one supplier and multiple sellers. Whatever the case, they all seem to be plenty expensive!

    Replacement Fuel Tank

My tractors fuel tank is rust-pitted and pin-holed beyond reasonable repair. I see there are aftermarket replacement tanks in both metal and fiberglass. Fiberglass seems attractive for being immune to rust. Does anyone have any thoughts on pros or cons for each option? Any idea if these...

    D17 Engine Oil Filter Pressure

DrAllis, Youre exactly right! What I thought to be a 7 on the engine SN is actually a Z! Also, it sure does have a cover with two bolts in it below the filter! Thats amazing that the Gleaner used the same engine! As I posted with the pic, there appears to be just a tiny bow on the hood...

    D17 Engine Oil Filter Pressure

Thanks, guys! I added a photo to show how the filter touches the hood. When I sight it from the nose, it looks like there may be just a slight inward bow, so that may contribute a bit. Fortunately, its just barely touching, so I dont think itll be a big deal.

    D17 Engine Oil Filter Pressure

I recently bought an early Series 1 D17 (SN 2106). It's engine SN is high (59939-7), so I'm fairly certain it's a replacement from one of the newer models. I first noticed this because its oil filter is different than another Series 1 I have. The filter is a female threaded spin-on type, and...

    2020 loses hyd.

Thanks, Jim! I finally got the stroke valve out of the pump. It has a seat that fits very snug and to the end of the valve chamber. Before removal, it was oriented as shown in Pic1, with a deep "female" bevel cut facing up and away from what appears to be the corresponding "male" bevel on the...

    2020 loses hyd.

While there was no hydraulic function, we were able to check and confirm the correct flow of oil from the little reservoir tank toward the oil cooler (per "transmission oil pump check" in the service and tech manuals). Also, just for kicks, we put a high pressure gauge in the top of the main...

    2040 Front end loader

Has JD ever published a tractor/loader "compatibility" chart? I have 145 on my 2020...really like it. If I ever get another model tractor, I've pondered the possibility of moving the loader over. It would be nice to know all the possible combinations.

    2020 loses hyd.

Front pump drive maybe worn to bits . Have a new fan belt handy when working on the pump drive . I'm assuming that belt would be because it can only be changed when the shaft is removed, so this would be an opportune time. I never even noticed that! That's a great tip! Thank you!!

    2020 loses hyd.

Hello, All! I'm having similar hydraulic problems with my 2020, so I thought I would try to pick up on this discussion where there appear to be several experts on the topic. I've had this tractor (TYP T5R3C / SER 075265T; 1968 model, I think) about 10 years, and it just recently had a sudden...

2020 C model Injection Pump - problems, problems!

With good advice from the forum back in January, I was eventually able to maneuver my 2020 engine to TDC, remove the injector pump, and find a shop that could do a rebuild on the CBC. Unfortunately, I encountered a major setback when I tried to reinstall it today. I turned the mounting nut a...
