Rebuilding the New Holland 271 Hayliner

This is my last post on YT.

Anyone hear from old after the storms

I spoke to him the evening of 031525. No major damage; a small tree across his driveway. Lots of wind and rain.

Wire size for very short run @40 amps

In case all of you talking about a shunt missed this! Direct-reading meter. #10 STRANDED (this is a generator that vibrates) will be more than adequate for the load. Commercial crimp connectors and the proper crimping tools will make the wires perform properly. Look at your car alternator...

A safety issue with flap discs

If one were to use the guards supplied on all grinders, there are fewer safety issues. Operator error causes a lot of accidents; I have had my share, but fortunately, only little boo-boos! And I *always* use the guard; prevented damaged fingers a few times.

    Tractor Wars

I saw that show recently. I think a couple of more are in the works, starting where this one ended, or thereabouts.

    Tee post pounder

Use the pounder to get the post started a few inches, and then use the sledge on top of it! I do have to drill holes about 18" deep with a 1" auger bit in my cordless drill, though. This is to move to the side any small boulders in the way of the post. Helps a lot!

    Guessing your age bracket .

Just shimmed the knives on my baler! I left the alignments to the pros!

    273 baler

Did the same with the knotter on my 271. On the bench; much easier. Refer to my thread here on "rebuilding the NH 271". There might not be images posted yet!

Rebuilding the New Holland 271 Hayliner

More rebuild (resurrection ?) images - Fabrication of missing plunger shield, spacers, and new bearing (all nine) installation Fabrication of replacement feeder chain guide Replaced both pins in clutch mechanism; this is before, don't have an after. Lots of wear on the pins, very little...

Rebuilding the New Holland 271 Hayliner

@will-max dairy - Yep, when we retired we decided to move somewhere where the office windows opened onto large tracts of nature; not roads, cars, or buildings. Love it here, even though we don't do any farming. I can go about 200 feet to the pond for some fishing!

Need a new PC for home use, its a tool too.

I like Linux, but each to their own needs and comfort level. My SO worked in military pay, with multiple computers, all running Windows, for 49 years. Her current device is an IBM (lenovo) T60 running Linux. No difference in operation! Windows has a large "fix-it" squad most everywhere, so...

    Dizzy Confusion

Suppressor wires mitigate the RF emanating from them. Wires act like a small antenna. Static in the AM radio bands Were suppressor wires around when the 9N, 2N or 8N's were designed? Shielded, maybe, for military use.

Need a new PC for home use, its a tool too.

Most every IoT device runs embedded Linux in some form. I have read that Microsoft uses Linux on some of its servers. Windows and MS is so pervasive because MS basically browbeat IBM and a couple of other vendors into installing it on their products. Had MS not done so, Windows would not...

Rebuilding the New Holland 271 Hayliner

@saskboy1950 - I agree, but not likely. No hydraulics or live PTO on my 8N. I have looked at alternatives. Not going to buy a bigger tractor for my little plot (40 acres) of land, mostly pasture. I am retired (6 years), and this keeps me busy and out of the SO's way. If I were to sit in...

    Power Conditioner
